He should go the Lars surgery. try get back for finals

No he shouldn't. At 33 he needs to think about after football. Traditional reconstructions are medically better long term.

The Western Bulldogs’ early prognosis has been confirmed, with scans to skipper Bob Murphy’s left knee revealing a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Murphy went in for scans on Monday, with the results confirming what had been suspected on Sunday evening after the Dogs' three-point loss to Hawthorn.

“Bob’s scans have just come in and they do confirm that he has ruptured his ACL and he has some medial ligament damage as well," Football Manager Graham Lowe told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“We’re going to give Bob the next few days to consider his position, and [his] plans for moving forward.

“The Club will support him in any way we can to make sure we support him in making the right decision for him and his family.”

In other injury news, forward Tory Dickson’s return to the top level is one step closer, with Lowe confirming that the 28 year-old should be available for selection for the upcoming weekend of football.

“Tory’s trained really well, he’s progressed into full training so we’re looking forward to him putting himself in a position to being available for selection this week, so that’s great news for Tory.”

Vice-Captain Easton Wood was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s game against Hawthorn with hamstring tightness, Lowe saying the All-Australian defender has not been ruled out of the clash with the Blues on Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.

“Easton had some hamstring tightness progressing into the game last week, he said.

“We didn’t’ want to take any risks so we withdrew him from playing.

“He’ll need to tick all of the boxes this week to make sure he’s fit and available to be selected.”

Terrible news, absolute no reason at all why he can't get back to his best next, age hasn't deterred him before, so i hope it doesn't this time.

Going to be a very hard man to replace for the Dogs, not only for the on field role he plays, but his leadership is among the best in the AFL.

Terrible for Murphy he should be right to come back you'd think but you wouldn't blame him for walking away.

Big loss for the WB probably their best player and not sure they have a cover for him.

295 games.

Lot of blokes cut down by injury before they got to 55 games.

Great player, never met him but seems like a good bloke (obviously everybody else on BigFooty has met him), had a great crack at it.

Bob really didnt strike me as the australian christian lobby type

Funny you should say that, as I'm fairly sure his mum and dad were training to be a nun/priest respectively when they met.

Looking forward to seeing Bob returning in 2017 and lifting the cup.

Favourite non-Hawk player. Mixed feelings in that moment. Didn't even have the heart to celebrate the Sicily goal. Hopefully if it is as an ACL the LARS surgery can have him back for a run at finals which I'm convinced the Dogs will be playing deep into after today.

I felt the same.

Been a great player to watch and by all accounts is a fantastic person.

when you hit 30 you're 1 big injury away from the end.

Most ACLs are done in the first few rounds of footy. Bulldogs get one every year so was waiting for it. Was surprised we had no major injuries in rounds 1 & 2

Not Bob though. **** this shit, am on holiday in Bali, Afl app a joke, miss half the game and now this shit

At least the Bintang is $3 a bottle

murph is the only Bulldogs player I've ever spoken to. after the disastrous Rohde era, Rocket Eade came in and smartened the place up. I met Murph outside the social club and shook his hand and said "thanks for the entertainment you're putting smiles on a lot of peoples faces'

He thanked me and looked genuinely pleased.

I've seen him play forward and back and out of position and do everything good coaches and shit coaches have asked of him, pretty much the same Bob from 18 to 33. Maybe he's lost a little pace but found an extra half-second when he has the ball in hand, using that time to set up a play no-one else could see.
He has been an exceptional player with grace, vision, intelligence and skill most footballers would kill for, then when he became captain last year he actually pretty much lifted a level at 32 running a bunch of pups around, will go down as a club legend and one of my favourite ever players for the doggies

Only player I can recall LARS working for is Nick Malceski, and even he had considerable setbacks.

Anyone got any others that successfully went down this route?

If he doesn't lose his pace and agility (which he hasn't shown any signs of up to this point in his career), he could play on for another 2-3 seasons at close to his optimum elite level. Hope he decides to do so because on form alone he is still competition elite, let alone Dogs elite.

I'm as passionate a Hawks supporter as they come (sometimes go a tad to far..lol)
But when Bob went down in that last scenario I was more worried for his welfare than Sicily having the shot to put us in front!
If all goes ok this season & we salute for the 4 in a row(fingers crossed).
I'd love nothing more than Bob coming back & leading the Dogies to their first flag since 1954.
That would be an awesome fairy tale.
Good luck on your recovery Bob Murphy & I'm sure your boys will do you proud for the rest of the season.

Haha I was the same. I was jumping around once Sciliy marked the ball. But that immediately turned to god I hope Murphy hasn't done his knee.
