Injury Robert Murphy

And that's your opinion. Unfortunately it's not mine. At least not at the moment.
I feel you. It's still so damn raw. The guy dragged our club off the canvas, we wouldn't be in a position to contend without his influence.

If time deprived him of the ultimate success, so be it. But an injury like this? **** off. That's not how it goes.

A couple of things on Murphy, not just a player, but a super captain. What a devastating injury. However, sad as it is. I am devastated to be honest but look for hope at each corner. I hope that good comes out of this and that the doggies pull rank and use this terrible injury as a spur to achieve the ultimate success that we all long for. To his great contribution and in the hope that 'the captain' comes back in the not too distant future, I post the following link from the movie Dead Poets Society. To our great captain: Oh captain, my captain. GO DOGS!!!

Quite right. Feeling for you guys at the moment, as a lot of true AFL fans would be.

Your game today could've gone either way too, from what I saw of it.

Looking forward to hopefully a top game of footy come Round 6 on a Friday night at Etihad.

Saw this on the news during the week, a new ACL surgery technique:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...nee-repairs/BJISuh60AYKYTKWPwaYFWP/story.html

Dude was back running after 3 months.

"In the experimental procedure, called Bridge-enhanced ACL Repair, surgeons place a protein-coated sponge between the two severed ends of the ligament. They then draw blood from the patient and inject it into the sponge, prompting a clot that jumpstarts the healing process, according to an explanatory video from Boston Children’s Hospital. The sponge acts as a bridge for the ligament ends to grow into, and eventually reconnect."
Believe it's still in the 'trial' stage. No chance an elite AFL player goes with it until it's passed that stage unfortunately.

Sidenote: has there ever been an instance where the club has feared it's an ACL but turns out it's not. They know all the tests and if they think it's a ruptured ACL, then scans are normally just confirmation. Still just so flat about it.

That last minute was the worst minute of football I have ever witnessed.

So flat right now.

Just tragic what happened, but really happy with how the boys played. They can hold their heads up high, and come back bigger and better.
No, the worst I have experienced was the Adelaide Prelim. Not recovered since. But we will get there with this coach and players.

Murphy hopefully will mentor the kids from the sidelines after his op. Having a young family it would be difficult to go overseas or get away from it all.
With his wiry build it would be worth him going around again.

My favourite non pies man in the comp.
Ripping player ripping bloke , really hope docs have it wrong or that Lars technique is an option as you guys are genuine flag threat this year.
All the best for scans this am

Shit news for you guys in particular but also footy, just a great footy person and always enjoyed his insights into the game.
Probably been covered but is there any chance he can go the LARS and hopefully back this year?
All the best to him and you blokes as well, you're playing the type of footy we can only dream of.

Heard on radio that lars isn't great option for those that play our game - too much a band aid solution. Hope he goes the full reco and is back with us next year.

Yeah I understand it can be a bit of a bandaid solution and I guess it depends on how long he wants to go around for.

Guy on the radio says with murph's light frame he'd be good for another 3 seasons. .... guess we just have to wait to see what murph now thinks. Hope it hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for the game. In an interview on tv with Matthews yesterday you could hear his love for playing on for a while. Good thing is i think of anyone can turn a negative into a positive it would be murph (wish i could say the same for me, lol)

Yup

There's worse going on in the world with babys in creeks and fanatics chopping off folks heads and bombing trains full of folks going to work and such. These a really sad and bad things.

Which is all the more reason to escape and buy in to something happy and entertaining when there is the chance...something like a battling footy club's resurgence, led by a bloke like Bob - who plays the game like a happy 9 year old commentating to him self.

It's sad that he's hurt, because folks won't get to see him shimmy and scoot. It's sad that he's hurt because he's led his team on a fairytale rise. And it's sad because it makes a happy thing like footy sad and we are left with the real world which is a campaigner of a place.

After the effort my team displayed on Saturday, I had a media and football ban for the rest of the weekend.
This morning I came on Bigfooty and saw the thread on the main board, I had hoped it was a sick joke but unfortunatly it isn't.
I am not even a Doggies supporter and I am shattered, I can only imagine how you guys are going.
Bob is a champion bloke and has stuck by the Kennel through thick and thin. I thought (and hoped) this was his year.
As gutted as the team would be, hopefully it won't derail a very promising season thus far.
I am unsure of Murphy's age or body situation but hopefully this isn't the end, as that would be just shit and so unfair.:(

2 quick points.

1. I have a funny feeling bob will be like obi-wan and become even more powerful in his absence. He'll still be hugely influential off-field.

2. unpopular opinion, but I don't think murph was playing that well this year anyway. Certainly nowhere near as well as last year. And we have 19 games to get comfortable playing without him.

Awful news, but all is not lost.
