Absolutely cruel scenario this one. I am in tears for our Captain and railing against the footy gods for serving us up another shit sandwich. They can go and get ****ed. So many arseh*le campaigners in this league, drug cheats, rapists etc walk away from the game with premierships medals and an easy life, and this bloke, a model citizen and leader cops that in the last play of a game. FFS.

I just hope that wasn't the last we see of one of the great Bulldogs.

I feel sick.

I don't mean that as euphemism for "I'm extremely upset"

I mean literally I feel sick.

Feel for you guys. When your ex-captain opted for greener pastures (?) the spiritual leader took over and added just that: Spirit, to the squad.

You can't seriously expect that? So unfair for his future welfare.

It'd be good if he could walk post footy or play properly next season.
To be honest I'm not overly familiar with the negative health impacts so if they're plentiful it's obviously a no go. I fear otherwise his lovely family will convince him that a year of rehab with the possibility of not coming back as good as he was will be too much.

They have to do it for him. After what he's done for the whole team over the last year and a half...

Hope they fight it out with him in mind every game.

They need to make sure they use the pain and galvanise as a squad from it. If we win this year it will be because of what Bob has done for our team.

Footy can be so F*****
He has to try LARS, even just to give the playing group (and us) hope he'll be back this season.
What are the downsides of Lars again?

I know it's risky with infection and may have long term implications, and not many of us would advise taking on those risks to a 18/22/25/27 year old with a few years ahead of them, but at 33, weighing up pros/cons, risk/reward and all that, surely it comes into consideration?

This is based on how I saw it almost 10 years ago so may be hazy, but I remember when he came back from the 2006 reco, it took him a good 18 months - after the 12 month lay-off - to get back to his true pre-injury self. That was at the peak of his career, it's going to be worse at 33/34.

Lars would not only see him possibly coming back to play a role this year but also mean he's more likely to be capable of being a vital cog next year.

And if he wants, he can test the Lars graft while jumping off the podium with premiership cup in hand in his 300th game.

Worst case scenario and he re-does it game #1 back, who on Earth in this industry would begrudge him or the club giving it a crack? I'm typically in the conservative camp with most issues of club/list/injury management, but there's certain times you've got so little to lose that you throw out the rule book.

Not an expert by any stretch, just know it's not as intrusive but generally not as reliable. He took a long time to get back to his best after the last surgery so let's roll the dice. We're due some luck, could add to the fairytale.

Just Heartbreaking.

But holy shit how good does the Sucking recruitment look now? Stroke of genius.

Here's a positive, last year arguably our best win was a 10 goal smashing of Port (their last chance opportunity to still make finals) without Murphy and Johanissen. That was with Jarrod 'Spudleshanks' Grant playing at HBF with Hamling and Biggs. So throw in Suckling and a vastly improved Johanissen and things aren't looking too bad.

Also according to JJ, Hamling is the fastest player on the team, so now with Adams tearing shit up, we could maybe afford to play Hamling at HBF as well.

Shit news if an ACL.

LARS??

All the best to Bob. Champion in every sense of the word.

This seems like the most obvious time for LARS - assuming no longer lasting affects. Goes from ending his career to potentially returning later this year. Whatever the decision he has been and will always be a champion of this club.

Let's not bury Captain Bob just yet.

Being at the game, I didn't see the replays however I didn't see him have that excruciating immediate pain normally associated with an ACL. Whatever Bob and the club decide to do, I wish him all the best. A true modern day legend of the AFL.

All the best for Bob, I used to see him around my work a fair bit and he always had time for a friendly chat. Genuinely good guy off the field and brilliant footballer and leader on it. I'm gutted by his injury.
