Saw this on the news during the week, a new ACL surgery technique:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...nee-repairs/BJISuh60AYKYTKWPwaYFWP/story.html

Dude was back running after 3 months.

"In the experimental procedure, called Bridge-enhanced ACL Repair, surgeons place a protein-coated sponge between the two severed ends of the ligament. They then draw blood from the patient and inject it into the sponge, prompting a clot that jumpstarts the healing process, according to an explanatory video from Boston Children’s Hospital. The sponge acts as a bridge for the ligament ends to grow into, and eventually reconnect."

Let's not bury Captain Bob just yet.

Being at the game, I didn't see the replays however I didn't see him have that excruciating immediate pain normally associated with an ACL. Whatever Bob and the club decide to do, I wish him all the best. A true modern day legend of the AFL.

Not ACL's are "too" painful though. Apparently there's about 30sec of very sharp pain & then it goes numb. From memory Luke Darcy walked off when he did his ACL, others need to be stretchered off. Looking at a couple of pics though his whole kneecap seemed to be out of place as well, that would indicate significant damage inside :(

Bob would have no existing Cruciate ligament so pain would be minimal. Remember Smith playing on last year for ten minutes after doing his. I'm guessing Adcock was recruited to replace Bob and Boyd when they retire so hopefully he can step in.

I've done both knees and barely felt a thing both times. Feeling is like a rubber band snapping in your knee, with a sudden burst of heat which dissipates after 20 seconds. Then it's just very tender once the swelling kicks in

That last minute was the worst minute of football I have ever witnessed.

So flat right now.

Just tragic what happened, but really happy with how the boys played. They can hold their heads up high, and come back bigger and better.

That was big blow at the end with our captain going down. I hope Bob will be ok and still get to 300 games which he deserves.

Same feelings here Wetdog. Our supporters were super extra passionate today.

I'm still numb and just absolutely gutted for Bob.

The optimist in me says it isnt too serious and he'll get back but at the ground seeing it/him... It's just a cruel cruel game at times.

Wishing him all the best with his recovery etc. as for the "R" word... I can't even go there ATM.

Sitting there wondering just who could fill a similar role, totally forgot about Adcock. While he doesn't possess the same vision, speed or let's face it, overall talent, he's an experienced player in that position & will be a cool head down there. Straight in there next week you'd think

This is just absolutely ****ed.

What about LARS? I understand that he needs to consider his post playing days but is it really gonna be that much different than a normal reco?

LARS would probably bring him back just in time for September... Cant think of a better story than that.

Just absolutely shattered for the bloke. Please please please be an absolute miracle and only be minor.

In fact a player a few years ago played a couple of games with knee injury that turned out to be a ruptured acl.
