I can see this whole thing making us turn a bit ruthless.
I tend to agree. And obviously it is completely different circumstances but I feel like the players could do what the Crows did for Phil Walsh and dedicate the season to Murphy and find a new gear.

There has been so many positives for us so far this year. Along with a great amount of youth and depth coming through in our VFL. Let's not let the loss of Murph define us. Let's use it as motivation instead.

Pardon the intrusion.

Just wanted to say I hope that its not as bad as feared, and if that does eventuate, that he makes a full and fast recovery. He's a great player and sad that such a good bloke in a good team, at such a good time for you lot, had this happen.

Best for the season... :thumbsu:

(except against us of course :D)

Go Catters

Not partial to the suck-arse comments of other supporters with their well wishes or condolences, so I usually avoid it myself. But I'll make an exception for Bob, because Bob is a bit exceptional.

I wish him well, on an individual level. If it is an ACL then I hope it's as benign as it can be, and that he can get back to marshalling his pups as soon as possible. Beyond the individual, I think that the Dogs are one of the more mature young teams I've seen in quite a while. Whatever happens to Bob, I think he's left a legacy which the Dogs will continue to enjoy the benefit of throughout the season. Despite the misfortune of yesterday, Bob has been your very good fortune and will continue to be so for the rest of the year.

Really sorry to see Bob go down with that injury. We watched almost the same thing happen to Robbie Gray in the last minutes of a game a few years ago, it's heartbreaking.
Bob is one of the very best people in the game and has stuck with the team all the way. It has been great to see him enjoying his footy so much lately and he really deserves to be a part of all the success you guys experience.
Hope he is able to get back on the field before too long.

Whilst still crying uncontrollably on the inside, I have a feeling this group will manage through this injury just as they did when we lost Libba last season. They seem to be more mature than a few younger sides from the past, we can replace the position but we will occasionally miss the experience & cool head under pressure. We might have lost a huge part of our team on the field for an unknown time, but we have gained an excellent coach & mentor on game days.

Still, this ****ing sucks.

The Western Bulldogs’ early prognosis has been confirmed, with scans to skipper Bob Murphy’s left knee revealing a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Murphy went in for scans on Monday, with the results confirming what had been suspected on Sunday evening after the Dogs' three-point loss to Hawthorn.

“Bob’s scans have just come in and they do confirm that he has ruptured his ACL and he has some medial ligament damage as well," Football Manager Graham Lowe told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“We’re going to give Bob the next few days to consider his position, and [his] plans for moving forward.

“The Club will support him in any way we can to make sure we support him in making the right decision for him and his family.”

In other injury news, forward Tory Dickson’s return to the top level is one step closer, with Lowe confirming that the 28 year-old should be available for selection for the upcoming weekend of football.

“Tory’s trained really well, he’s progressed into full training so we’re looking forward to him putting himself in a position to being available for selection this week, so that’s great news for Tory.”

Vice-Captain Easton Wood was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s game against Hawthorn with hamstring tightness, Lowe saying the All-Australian defender has not been ruled out of the clash with the Blues on Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.

“Easton had some hamstring tightness progressing into the game last week, he said.

“We didn’t’ want to take any risks so we withdrew him from playing.

“He’ll need to tick all of the boxes this week to make sure he’s fit and available to be selected.”

well shit. Has some medial damage as well, guess that rules out LARS as an option. Such a shame to see him go down like this, pray it isn't career ending.

I hope you're right but remember last year when ? Went down just before half time and we were well ahead but then capitulated after that because they were so distraught - hope they have learnt and can rise above. We shall overcome. Cede Nullis

So fully ruptured ACL. Plus medial ligament damage. Would that mean that LARS would be too risky of a procedure now ?

Clay went down in front of the section I was sitting for my only trip to Melbourne last year, we capitulated indeed. But that was just before half time & he was in the rooms with all the players during the break, Bev acknowledged that was a mistake because he was emotional, his mates got emotional & we went on to be spent.

This still hurts but there is the best part of a week to get focused, not 20 minutes or so. All I hope is that they play on Saturday night for Bob, show no mercy & obliterate the Blues by 100+

Heads up, gives the younger group a better chance to step up and lead.

Murphy will also play a role in this season to help the dogs out, so dont think he will be sitting at home doing nothing. Seems like it won't be the end of Murphy so heads up.

I also suspect the players will go out and dominate more than ever for Murph. This may actually help out team become stronger as Murph will help Bev, and Murph knows how to treat the players, he will be able to see it from a coaches perspective.

It will work ok out in the end

Tough luck for Murphy, especially so close to 300. Good luck whatever he decides.

Yet as a club, the focus is off any individual, just like Hawthorn do when injuries occur.

Step up Webb or Prudden or whoever. A door closes for one yet opens for another.
