Let's not forget that he's nearly 34 and has played 295 games. IF he does play on, it would be a herculean effort on his behalf.
I know, I said i was being selfish. Retirement hasn't really entered my head because LB, commentators and everyone just seems to be taking it for granted that he'll be back (therefore me too i guess - or maybe I've just heard what i want to hear).
Just gutted but I'll love him whatever he decides.

Those last 2 minutes sucked. I hope we haven't seen the last of Bob on the field. Libba's knee injury didn't stop us from making the finals, whereas some players switched off after half time in the game where Clay got injured. Hopefully everyone responds in the right way. Get well Bob!

Was totally crushed as I watched the last few minutes of the game, unfortunately the look on Bob's face said it all as he sat on the ground, he knew what he had done. I am hoping he comes back and plays again and gets to go out on his terms.
What ever he decides you can be sure it will be the right decision for himself, his team mates and the club.
All the best to him and the season ahead for the Doggies.

Someone once said to me that you are a long time retired when you finish footy.

Play as long as you can, squeeze every last drop out of it cos once it's finished you can't go back. It's like the greatest love affair of your life and you can never replicate the feeling of playing footy IMHO.

Not the case at all for the surgery. You have to have the scans, the scans (best organised during business hours) have to be reviewed and the alternatives considered and then a surgeon and operating theater organised. All that doesn't happen in less than 24 hours. Seven days is about the upper preferred limit on surgery unless there is other trauma or medical factors.

Plus you need some of the inflammation to settle down...Dr Bodicifer

Like everyone, I'm absolutely shattered for Bob and hope he can make a brilliant comeback.

I'm finding it difficult to understand why these tragic circumstances always seem to hit the Captains of our proud club.

Is it the Bulldogs Captains curse or just coincidence that bad luck seems to shadow our captains over the years.
Chris Grant and Luke Darcy did their knees while they were captains. Grant even had an unusual pinched nerve injury
in his neck that almost cut short his career.
Johhno run down by a golf cart at training while he was captain think it was a calf or achilles was never the same
and to a lesser extent, as soon as M Boyd and Griffen became captains they too where hampered by injuries calfs Back hips groins etc..

I'm just hoping we can have a little bit of luck come our way in future years as is required to win that elusive Premiership.

Better not let the Bont become captain then or Woody.

Although Bob is obviously in the twilight of his career, there haven't been any signs of him slowing down or his form dropping over the past year.

Some could say last year was the best of his career. I'm also perplexed at some comments in this thread saying his form over the three games so far this year wasn't too flash - seriously? He was fine.

For mine, age is irrelevant as long as the player has the ability and the drive to go on. There's been no signs of Bob being on a downward spiral.

Harvey at North is still their best player and he's 38 (I think) - but so what? He still has the ability to contribute.

Given that, not only do I hope Bob goes on, but I think he is likely to.

Yeah I agree that he hasn't looked to have slowed and is certainly best 22 by the Flemington straight.
He has the ability to go on, there is no question of that. I hope he goes on as well, we'll miss his leadership and presence I think. But if he does not feel comfortable or confident coming back, from what is a very major rehab, then he will go do as a legend and champion of the club and the game.

Oh yes definitely.

I will be sad, but will certainly understand, if he decides to retire.

Agreed. Watched the replay last night. He was ominous streaming through the middle in the 3rd quarter. If he does come back next year (I think that he will) I would like to see him patrolling the wing and half forward as a lead-up target. His delivery and composure is required when it comes down to the last kick in the F50.

Still not over this. Hope a fairy tale comes to life with murph playing a few more years, reaching his 300 and being captain of a premiership team to boot. So dispondent at mo. :-(

I believe that everything happens for a reason. However, after being a dogs supporter for approximately 30 years I have no idea why I still do.

Come to think of it, I think the footy gods are actually footy luciferians or footy satanists.

No. It doesn't. The universe is random.

When do you think Bob will announce his intentions? Hope he doesn't keep us waiting too long. I can't start the grieving process until I know. At the moment I have an uncomfortable mix of foolish optimism and dread.
Probably wait to see how op goes etc
