Injury Robert Murphy

Like everyone, I'm absolutely shattered for Bob and hope he can make a brilliant comeback.

I'm finding it difficult to understand why these tragic circumstances always seem to hit the Captains of our proud club.

Is it the Bulldogs Captains curse or just coincidence that bad luck seems to shadow our captains over the years.
Chris Grant and Luke Darcy did their knees while they were captains. Grant even had an unusual pinched nerve injury
in his neck that almost cut short his career.
Johhno run down by a golf cart at training while he was captain think it was a calf or achilles was never the same
and to a lesser extent, as soon as M Boyd and Griffen became captains they too where hampered by injuries calfs Back hips groins etc..

I'm just hoping we can have a little bit of luck come our way in future years as is required to win that elusive Premiership.

Sorry to intrude guys, especially under these circumstances.
I was watching the game and when I saw this happen, my heart sunk.
Murph appears to be such a quality individual, and that's reflected in the universal love and respect by not only Doggies supporters, but the entire football community.
People of Bob's caliber and integrity are seldom found, and this is a rotten, horrible thing to have happen to such a respected and modest champion.
I for one will be hoping he comes back and leads you guys to the ultimate success.
If anyone has the character and grain to do it, it's Bob Murphy.

Good luck Bob, footy will be off when you come back...

His friend and mentor, the great John Schultz, thinks he should go on. He said, "You're a long time out of footy." I don't think Bob will give it away yet. He loves the club plus the boys still need him around them. And there is still a ton of ongoing PR and goodwill to be had by the club.

The more I think about it, the more I think he has to play on. If anyone has the mental fortitude to do it, it's Murph. I wouldn't begrudge him if he decided to retire, he has already given our club more than anyone could have asked and the club will always be indebted to him for his role in turning things around once he took the reigns of captaincy.

Regardless of his decision, he will retire a legend. But I have a feeling that his legacy isn't gonna end like this. It's been a fairy tale ride and I think it will have a fairy tale ending.

Surely not. I know all players are different but Libba was 13 months out pretty much before coming back. If Bob does that, he is back mid 2017. Reckon it'll be a tough ask to be back for Rd 1 tbh.

If he comes back, i'd love for Adi Brown to do a doco on the road to recovery. Through all the rehab etc finishing with Bob's first game back etc. Would be fascinating to get the inside look at what they go through, and how Bob actually approaches it mentally.

I think the recovery time is supposed to be about 9 months actually. The reason it is considered a year-long injury is because the footy season is less than 9 months long. Libba only took so long because we didn't have any games during the offseason. While you'd want to be slightly cautious with Bob due to his age and his previous ACL, the 11.5 months from now to round 1 is plenty of time.
