It's always quoted as a 9 month injury in soccer - with the slightly longer seasons players sometimes come back before the end if they do it early enough

Absolutely a 9 month injury. Should be cherry ripe for Round 1 if he wants to be.
 
Bob suffered his first knee injury in round 9, 2006 and returned in round 1 the following year. So it's quite possible :)

I won't begrudge him if he retires obviously, but all signs and things known so far would indicate it has to be at least 80/20 right now.

On social media if Bob is going to announce he will return, I just want him to post a picture of the Terminator with no words :cool:

I reakon at least he's going to see how he goes long term and take it from there. Chris judd (who i know is a different story coz he probably shouldn't have played on) announced his retirement 4 days later - we've passed that 'milestone' with the murphster (go easy, let me hope).

We all know bob loves the romance of the game, how good a story would that be, coming back to lead the dogs to glory?

Think about the doco, book or movie. Just the history of this place and what a flag would mean, his name would be spoken about with the likes of Charlie and EJ
 
I've been trying to find examples of sportsmen doing ACLs late in their career and coming back.

Italian superstar Roberto Baggio - a truly great soccer player - did his at 33 for the 2nd time. Came back four months later and played two more very good seasons before retiring.
 
Does anyone think that he could have been there to tell the boys if he is gonna give it another crack/retire and they'll keep the decision in house for a bit? Or simply just to show his face and check in with the lads?

Keeping up appearances, until the surgery is done there wouldn't have been a decision unless like Judd he knew it would be his last season before he pulled the boots on.

Judd was already weighing up retirement the season before it happened. Bob so different. He'll go around again, if only for half of another season.

The more pertinent question is whether he'll be the captain next year.

If we win the grand final the this year just try and keep Bob from coming (or our players from dragging Bob) onto the ground to celebrate with the boys. He'll be there.
 
This is a bit much coming from a guy that cost us a grand final by his stupid push on Riewoldt, that was an individual act. We cleared and he got three flags. Seems like he has axe to grind with Bob. He would be the only person in the football world that does not like Bob. He is a bit different brain fade Brian 2 personalities Jekyll

Brian Lake’s comments that injured Western Bulldogs captain Robert Murphy should immediately retire for the betterment of his team’s development are illogical, says Tim Watson.

The former Hawthorn and Bulldogs defender said on AFL 360 last night that Murphy shouldn’t return from his long-term ACL injury as it would deny younger players an opportunity at consistent games.

“It’s probably better for the team for him to retire. I know it’s not good to say… guys are going to get an opportunity now...a Shane Biggs or a (Jason) Johannisen are going to get an extra 20 games of experience in them this year,” Lake said.

“What happens then? Does their career have to be paused for 12 months again when Murph comes back from a knee for another 20 games and then Murph retires and they just go from there?”

“I just think with the Bulldogs it’s always been about the individual a little bit too much and not about the team.”

Watson slammed these comments, and said that the two players mentioned by Lake are already among the Dogs’ best 22.

“You know what that sounds like to me? Axe to grind. What he is saying is illogical. Biggs is already playing, Johannisen is already playing,” he said.

“He makes the point that their careers are going to be put on hold if Bob Murphy comes back and plays. I don’t know if he has thought through what he is saying there.”

The Seven Network sports newsreader says that the decision should be made based on what Murphy wants.

“I don’t see any problem at all with just waiting and finding out from Bob Murphy whether he actually wants to continue on with his career,” Watson said.

The former Essendon captain did not mind Lake’s view that the club parades the individual over the team, however he doesn’t believe this attitude has remained since Lake joined the Hawks in 2013.

“I don’t mind the fact that he’s got a view about the club always celebrating the individual over the team and maybe he has had experiences like that in his time at the Bulldogs but I certainly don’t think it applies to Bob Murphy and the team man and player he has been for that football club.”

David Schwarz believes that the timing for these accusations is wrong, and that it seems as if Lake still holds a grudge against his first club.

“He did sound bitter and for a mean who has left the club and gone and won three premierships,” the Ox said.

“He should be nothing but delighted with what happened but obviously in the time he has spent at the Bulldogs he’s picked up that there were individuals who were treated above the rest… is it the time and place on the back of Bob Murphy doing a knee to bring that up?”

The one issue no one has touched on is its the same knee the was reconstructed in 2006.

I hope he comes back yet if its doesn't heel as it should I hate to see Murphy go out like struggling like a few of our past champions have.
 
Bulldogs were always about the individual more than the team..

Like asking fat head to play forward so we could develop more defenders
