Your saying he's gone from struggling to get a game last year now to one of the AFL's most influential taggers - pull the other one it rattles.

that's the problem, you weren't paying attention. when not injured he has played nearly every game for 2 years!!! and even taking that into account, since mid way through 2003, only about 6 or 7 players on our list have played more games in that time.

suggesting he was lucky to get a game is an invalid opinion in light of the facts.

sorry WW,
could not be more wrong. An average player with the right role, is a lot more than just an average player - they are guys who found their career.

Look at Peter Caven, Jose Romero, Simon Prestigiacomo, David Teague etc etc... role is everything.

all players are looking to find their spot, once they have found it (or finally failed to) that is when they can be best judged.
Correct, although you could mount an argument that Presti still hasn't found his role ;)

I would argue that assuming Shirley HAS found his role my contention he is an average tagger - not amongst the leagues best and not offensively damaging enough.

All the discussion has been about his stopping abilities (which I have questioned) not his hurt factor running off his tag??
Stinger was slightly better in this facet, but give me a Thompson any day of the week. ;)

This its fair to say we have not had an abundance of midfielders in recent times losing Bickley, Sugar, and Jars (yes he played some midfield).
Hence the reason NC has said we must get some midfielders.

The facts support your argument, but given Skippy is getting a game the above argument supports my POV.

Iraq's Minister for Information was still telling them that the Iraqis had 'em by the balls while you could see the Yanks invading in the background.

A relative, WW?? :D :p

Crows' secret weapon

Noble said veteran defender Ben Hart, who needs one more game to become the Crows' games record-holder with 279, and wingman Brett Burton would play if they can prove they have overcome hamstring injuries. Master tagger Robert Shirley also will come into the side if he can shake off a calf injury. Ruckman Matthew Clarke will miss two games with a hand injury he suffered while playing for South Adelaide's reserves on Saturday.
 Oh Please

I was waiting for you to quote him on that and it didn't take too long :D

You will be pleased to hear Shirley completed the training session and will play against the roos :)

Actually Stiffy, they said on the telly that Shirley didn't train tonight - Hart and Burton did - to further rest that calf. Mattner didn't train either through general soreness.

They did say that both Shirley and Mattner were expected to play though.

Thats funny I heard on one of the radio reports that Hart, Burton and Shirley all trained and completed the session and are expected to play

Probably hard to tell when he trains and when he doesn't ;)

Sorry that's unfair isn't it :o

Yeah, the radio did say that but all the TV stations said that he didn't. They all showed vision of Burton and Hart but not even a sniff of Shirley.

I hope Shirley does play - he's very important to the structure of our game, as we all saw last week (other than if your initials are WW :p )

Its very unfair ;)

They also said Mark Stevens left the training early with general soreness. Unlikely he will play against the Roos as there is not enough rest for him between the games (Eagles played on monday) but he will play for the eagles.

They did say that.

Does that mean that Watts and Bock won't be considered either?

Is the general soreness from Eagles games or training?

Knee or back or unknown or "everywhere" ;)

They didn't say what soreness it is. Tyson Edwards was on 5AA and he said its because Stevo played on monday and his body takes a couple of days to recover.

I don't think its anything serious. I think he will play for the Eagles against South.

I think they might be named as emergencies but I doubt they will play this week. If they play well against South this week, I think Bock could get a game next week.

While Watts was good, I would still keep him in SANFL for a while longer.

Could I suggest that if he were in top form Stevens would be playing irrespective of the soreness line.

Given the club is content to continue to allow Stevens to play in the SANFL the soreness argument externally justifies the clubs stance in not playing him

He isn't in great form but he has been solid.

I think the club wants him to get his touch back and get some solid match fitness under his belt before they bring him back in. IMO when the club brings Stevo back in they don't want to drop him again.

I think he will play for us eventually but I doubt it will be this week.

Mmmmm! If thats the clubs position why did he play the first game? - surely his touch and match fitness was worse then than perhaps now
