INteresting that he took doggies from 15th to 3rd in his first full year as a coach.

2001 and 2002 somewhat tarnishes his record but I reckon its got a fair bit to do with his recruiting and obsession with midfielders.

In all this debate you haven't given your opinion on next AFC coach. Who would you like at the helm of AFC next year??????

Gary O'Donnell. He's done an extended apprenticeship under both Kevin Sheedy and Leigh Matthews and he was an intelligent methodical leader as a player.

I think it's time we gave the reigns to fresh blood in the form of a rookie coach - every great coach has had to start somewhere.

Personally I was in favour of O'Donnell back in 99, before we appointed Ayres. I think Ayres is doing a good job now, but lacks the proper support.
Having said that, O'Donnell would be Cherry Ripe, for a senior position and I think we may need to take a number come end of the season, IF the AFC chooses to replace Ayres....
IMHO....

Very True! But ponder this for a moment, the 3 main areas the AFC have been failing this year so far are, Skills, Forward line structure and entrys into the Forward line . Which is the responsibility of both D Jarman and N Craig, if I am correct?!
Ultimately, Ayres is responsible, but if his assistants aren't doing their jobs in making sure the areas they are working with aren't clicking together, then not even Malcom the Messiah could coach the team to a flag!!! ;)
