Was the one that got us over the line in a NAB game with his gut running in the fourth. Might have been against the Dons. Wouldn't worry about his form to much but it does mean when he come back in he will be giving it a huge crack.

Totally true , he just kept pumping his legs , fast break after fast breaking and pumping it into the forward line. He was very unlucky to be sub in round 1. He'll play a part of this year .

Edwards has I reckon had more 'score involvments' this year than anyone else.... I recall he had the immediate prior touch to at least 3 of Jacks goals on Friday night.

Back to Nahas though... ultimately he offers more than King IMO. (& I love Kingy... it's just that he is limited)
Clone Kingy's toughness and long kicking with Robbie's speed and goal sense and you would have a real A grade goal sneak.

IMO the issue is Edwards and King have extra strings to their bow over Nahas

King does the defensive bit better, and while Nahas gets tackles, he isn't as good as applying that pressure.

Edwards also rotates through the middle better, as IMO Nahas has never gotten the tank needed to do it for long enough.

That's why he's the third on my list of these three (Edwards first, then king, then Nahas), and I would not be surprised if McDonough passes him soon, as he is better at finding the goals

nahas is very good at applying pressure. always chases back and runs hard when the opposition have the ball in our forward 50.

i think there's more to this story, based on the past 2 seasons i'm guessing he must've slipped up during the off/pre season and didn't apply himself to training as well as the others.

he might be very fit, but perhaps lack of size and below standard attitude? from what we've heard we can't tell

Required player, we don't have anybody who can do what he can do at this point. King is the coaches favourite, but when it comes to crumbing packs, breaking lines, and kicking goals, he's got nothing on Nahas. Hopefully he returns sooner than later.

agree - and without him our forward line is officially too slow. we have no one who can cut through a crowded defensive area from a spilled bomb into the forward line (and the deep bomb is our favoured tactic)

I prefer King to Nahas. We are a much better side with King's leadership and aggression and desperation in our forward line.

In the long term, we really need an elite small forward who can play some midfield with pace and zip who can kick plenty of crumbing goals. Eddie Betts/Cyril Rioli type.

I said last season we lacked pace and I still maintain that. To take the next step I feel this is what we need. I think Hawthorn realised they may be too one paced, ditto Sydney a few years ago and hence the recruitment of your Jetta's and Brad Hill types.

That should be our next step in my opinion.

Been a fan of Robbies over the stretch but Its as simple as this for him, he needs now to up the ante to force the selection committees hand. I can see he has worked hard over the pre season to get his leg strength up and now he needs to use it.
Its all about facing the next challenge for him and to take it on. If he is sulking etc then he aint much use to the big picture.
If the brains trust think there is a better option, then he has to make himself a better option than the better option.

Can't agree with this. How many times did he get first hands on the ball last week at centre clearances, only to lose it because of a bump or tackle? He's too weak to play in the guts for mine

I reckon it's McGuane that's keeping him out to be honest. No way Edwards will be dropped, and King for all his faults, does make us a much better side up front.

Nahas is good enough to be getting games at a lot of clubs, but unlucky for him, right now he has too many ahead of him at Richmond. This will almost certainly change throughout the season as injuries occur, touch wood.

Robbie's situation is indicative of our newly found depth...it will take some adjusting to mentally, but just because he's been a walk up start previously doesn't mean that's the case now.

In the last round none of Foley, Knights, Aaron Edwards, Nahas, Stephenson and Vlastuin got a game. I expect they'll all get at least a handful of games over the year as injuries/form warrant. But we'll just have to get used to having players that we used to see regularly get games not doing so.

Nahas is a far more naturally gifted player than King but his deficiencies are also greater as well and King for all his faults possesses an intangible quality that lifts the team and usually makes us play better.

King's natural gifts are underrated. He's actually pretty skilful in some ways - hits targets, pretty good shot for goal and has a very good technique in tackling.

Edwards is not really comparable to these two anymore, his role has evolved and become fairly different.

this years Nahas, is last years White.... regular who a few rounds in became a marginal.

Was a bit sad when White started to get sidelined, but came to understand and accept it: bit sad if Nahas is moving in the same direction; both Nahas and White were part of our 'journey' back to respectability (a journey that isnt finished mind you) ..and part of me wants to see those who contributed along the way be there when the reward comes.... but thats the heart ruling the head.

We're going to lose some one at the end of the year...most of the deadwood is gone. Not used to being in this position as a Richmond supporter.

yes, because its very hard to contain and mark both of them at the same time... there was a time when White was part of the same dynamic.. it was very hard to keep all three of them in check, inevitably one of them would be losse at the foot of the pack or loose inside 50

Just for fun - I did a quick check up.

If drafted when he COULD have been, Nahas would have been drafted in 2005. Here are the second-rounders from the 2005 draft (Picks 19-34 - there were 3 priorities).

Paul Bower, Danny Stanley, Beau Muston, Ryan Cook, Cleve Hughes, Wade Mills, Garrick Ibbotson, Dylan Addison, Matt Riggio, Ben McKinley, Nick Lower, Trent West, Bernie Vince, Matt Spangher, Sam Gilbert, Stephen Owen.

OK, I'll give you Vince, Gilbert, and maybe Addison as clearly better. As for the rest - I reckon Nahas is in the top half of those.
