News Rocky tells Rhys to pull his head... up?

Because he took a young player in his first games and crucified him. He endorsed a bunch of media deadshits who in the lads first game gave him a reputation which he will find it hard to kick for the rest of his football career. Never has this been done before in VFL/AFL history.

I saw it as constructive captaincy trying to get one our young players to concentrate on getting the ball out of the contest quickly and not concentrating on a free kick. Granted he probably should have done it in house but for people to blow up and call Rocky a poor captain is too much for me. We now have people blaming him for wasting 4 of his 40 disposals. What i seen in Tom is someone who is far from perfect but a leader who wants to see this club rise and be successful again. By the way Luke Hodge is lauded for his captaincy and he has made a lot of mistakes on and off the field.

And saying he crucified Mathieson is way over the top. Did you even listen to what he said and in the manner it was said?

I still think it is something that should be said behind closed doors. Hanging the kid out to dry in the media is not on. As much as most of us love Rocky he is proving to be a pretty ordinary skipper thus far.

I think he's proved now that he's not captain material. Bring in Mitch Robinson. He's rough around the edges, but he leaves nothing left on the field and it would a snowy winter's day in hell before Robinson would bag out a rookie teammate in the press.

I really am not getting this Rocky hate. He is our best player and is a highly consistent performer and does a lot of talking on the field. He might not be the most natural speaker, but he sure as hell bleeds for this club.

If a 31 year old Luke Hodge and a 34 year old Nick Reiwoldt are still making mistakes as captains, I think we can afford to give Rocky a break for mincing his words in a bloody radio interview.

Please don't use the word hate, just because people are upset with Rockliff's behaviour does not mean that people revile him. It's not about "mincing" words, once again a factual understatement, but more about him not having empathy for a young, first gamer learning the ropes. A big mistake.

Did u have a problem when Christensen got called out? He has been in an interview with Leppa, and we didn't jump to his defense. Yes he is older, but no matter what age every player is vulnerable to a crisis of confidence. That's why world champions often don't win Olympic medals - think Magnussen.

Rhys seems to me to be extremely confident, with a good dose of cockiness which is essential in a great footballer. If they have talked about this issue repeatedly inside the club, which I am sure they have, I don't think he will wilt from Rocky's comment. I think he is more the Jonathon Brown type.

Because Rocky has been on the sideline for a lot of the past two seasons he appears to be MIA and I am sure that affects our opinion of him. He bleeds for our club, and I for one can cope with a captain that is blunt across all things to all people. Confronting at times but never manipulator. At least he is genuine.

Vossy was out but never influenced our opinion of him. Incidentally could you ever see Vossy or JB entering into a conversation like that. Please don't cloud the issue with red herrings.

Voss did enter conversations about Aker when the blow up happened in 2006.....quite publicly. I think Brown may have had a few words about it too.

The way Aker was "handled" was quite divisive.

Not everyone was "un-influenced" in their opinion of Voss at the time
