why are they using soccer and other sports as the main driving factor for changes to our game.

our game is pretty unique, they are ruining that aspect.

Seriously why do we have these olds gits who played in an era that is totally different from ours given liscence to try to turn back the clock?

I was always under the impression rules were only allowed to come in if majority of clubs approved. Obviously thats not the case......more importantly why not?

I've never commented about the AFL and rule changes before because it never fazed me much but this capping of interchanges has got me really annoyed. This will destroy or cut short careers..

F you Demetriou.

the Matthews quote was the strangest and most shortr sighted. It's strange because even most Collingwood haters concede that the Pies are playing a bloody exciting brand of football ans are great to watch. It's short sighted because it seems extremely obvious that collingwood's current game plan, which resembles a basketball style full court press will be short lived. When teams are good enough to break through the full court press, collingwood are very exposed at the back. As evidenced by the fact that most of Geelong's goals on the weekend were scored pretty easily in the end, by blokes in space. It won't take long before teams learn to break the full court press apart.
This is how I think that Matthews's suggestion would play out. it would lead to a very open midfield, where teams, with modern disposal skills, would bring the ball through in a semi uncontested manner. Then the forward fifty would be verey congested, because to defend unpressured midfielders from pinpointing forwards, coaches would have to take more blokes out of the midfield and heavily zone their defence. I could basically envisage the game becoming more like basketball, whereby if the opposition have the football, you ignore the bloke with the ball and focus on getting into your defensive structure. I tend to think that the game will go this way anyway once teams become adept at breaking through the Collingwood style full court press, however, the Matthews suggestion will accelerate it.
