Roger Federer is not the GOAT

Good by you Thrawny.

My declaration that Fed would never win another slam after his failed Aus Open campaign this year is looking good.

Will be even less likely next year for him winning one too.

Nup, the French is like winning the breastroke, at best backstroke, Wimbledon the freestyle.
Ha. Love how people think that.
Not Nadal’s fault no one has stepped up to his level.
If Nadal is to blame for being French open specialist then Federer winning at Wimbledon 8 times is the same. How many Australian open has he won? Meh. Moot point. Federer’s a glass court specialist. Yet the mist of romance is better

Wilander, McEnroe, Edberg, Becker - four players Nadal is equal with if you exclude his French wins. All legends of the sport.

The French dominance is a moot point as he’s done more than enough - 7 slams ffs - to prove he doesn’t rely on one surface to be dominant.

The other 3 surfaces favour fast-court leaning players. There are 3 per year that suit the games of Novak and Roger. Hypothetically imagine if it was 2 and 2 per year - rafa would have 30+ by now and the argument would be absolutely smashed to pieces.

If anything the Australian is the poor cousin - it was only worth half the ranking points of the other 3 until the late 80s or early 90s from memory so if there’s one that means less than the rest (moreso considering it isn’t the culmination of a ‘season’ like the French and US), it is the Australian.

You can respond to this easily with the ‘and it my Aunty had bollocks’ response and that’s fair enough, but it’s worth remembering that if Nadal hadn’t have been broken back 3 times at Melbourne last year he’d already be up 20-19

Funny how life works. Djokovic will not pass Federers GS count now due to the corona virus. There won't be any grand slam tennis in 2020 and djokovic will be 34 in 2021. Nadal still has every chance though.
The number 1 player in the world will be disadvantaged by giving his body a prolonged rest?

Did Fed get a free 9-12 months off to get his body right at 32?
Federer made the semi finals of Wimbledon in July 2016 and won the aus open in 2017. Less than 6 months out of the game. He would have resumed training late 2016.

With every chance that 2021 will be the resumption of the Tour and Djokovic turning 34 next year, it is going to be very difficult for him to surpass Federer.

I had djokovic winning wimbledon this year and possibly the US, with next year being his shot at the slam record. Was certainly hoping this would be the case at least. I can't see it happening with 2020 scrapped.
