Maybe Im reading to much into it BUT I saw Mark harvey really giving it to Bewick in the rooms after the match, obvioulsy couldnt hear what was been said, and for all I know it could of been really positive, ?????

Am I right thinking that both Harvey and G O'D played alongside Ro's uncle?

I think I am.

Kicked 18 goals from 15 games in 2012.

Tom 'the wizz' Rockliff kicked 18 goals from 22 games.

Does this stat portray Bewick in good light, or does it just show how down Rockliff's form was on 2011 (considering he spent A LOT of time up forward)?

Rohan definitely started to show something in the second half of the season. Kicked at least one goal a game in 11 of our last 13 games.

Just has a touch of the 'Banfields' when the ball is headed towards his chest.

Bit harsh imo, whizkizz... I think he's usually a good mark. Dropped a couple today but I think it is just a concentration issue (which is a lot more easily fixed than if it is a coordination issue). Bit of new role for him taking marks at full pace on the lead, so I think he's just got to hone the ability to keep his eye on the ball all the way into his hands.

Maybe this is something that just stood out to me every time it happened, as I watched the replay of the 4th quarter of the West Coast game that many times. We had a bit of a run on, and he spilt the pill, then fell over trying to get back onto it. It stuck in my mind, and happened probably 3-4 times again.

During today's game the commentators were trying to analyse Vossy's reaction to the dropped chest mark - "why didn't he take it with arms out in front?".

Agreed though, his hands usually are pretty good (took a bit of a screamer against the Dogs earlier in the year?). The Banfield call may have been a little harsh.

The only other blemish I see is his body strength, needs a big summer in the gym! All in all, definitely showed a lot of improvement by seasons end, after I personally had him on the scrap-heap mid year.

While I'd like to see him bulk up a bit, the thing that makes him dangerous up forward is his speed & run. Seems to get away from defenders well. Would lose his point of difference if this suffered as a result of bulking up too much.

There was a definite split in the year between 'bad' Bewick (where I was sure he was a delisting candidate) and 'good' Bewick (kicking a goal or two or three every game). I'd say the stat shows Bewick in a good light. Rocky did go missing for a lot of the year but playing in our forward line can do that to you. Against a good team, it's basically the Bermuda Triangle. Players go in and we never see them again.

Bewick certainly impressed me when playing deep forward. Seems to have a good ability overhead and is quick for his size, provides an awkward matchup.

I must admit I wasn't much of a fan earlier in the season when he was playing wing/hff. Certainly changed my tone since his shift forward.

For someone with disposal issues, his set shots for goal look pretty decent. He missed a few in his first game as a forward, but after that he's hit them pretty sweetly.

He kicked a couple of long range beauties in the practice match against Essendon earlier this year. That got my attention. He definitely knows how to kick em.

Lions retain top 4 players

THE trio of Andrew Raines, Matt Maguire and Rohan Bewick are set to follow Simon Black by re-signing with Brisbane.

Bewick kicked 18 goals in 16 senior games in 2012, with the left-footer having established himself as a regular member of Brisbane's first-choice side.

The West Australian turns 23 next month and helped form part of Brisbane's mosquito squad in the forward line.

Bewick has really proven to be a good option up forward this year. I think he will need to improve again to keep his spot next year though.

Undoubtedly. With quite a few below him pushing for spots, he'll need to take another step up. I'm still not entirely convinced whether or not he'll do it, but I didn't think he was capable of doing what he did this season so am definitely not going to write him off. I really like him and what he adds to the team when he's on, though, so hopefully he's capable of doing it.

The Running Man
“I’m always happy to get a run on the wing, but it’s also good fun kicking goals.”

Re-Signed, runs hard all day, loves playing footy with a more than handy left boot on him. What's not to love about this kid?

Has he officially re-signed yet? I know he's been close for quite some time, but hadn't heard that he'd officially put pen to paper.

Wait... he might actually be good

Rohan Bewick looked unlikely to have a long career. Indeed, despite being a semi-regular in the senior team there was a good chance the 2012 season would be his last. Apart from being dropped between rounds three and seven, the Lions showed a lot of faith in him, despite him regularly having limited impact. Playing on the wing or half-forward, he had the occasional good game, most notably round 13 against the Bulldogs (19 disposals, two goals) and round 16 against St Kilda (20 disposals, two goals). But most of the time he was unable to be a significant contributor.

His aim over the off-season was to improve his inside game, and to his credit this became less of a weakness for him. While not much of an offensive threat, he was better able to at least hold the ball in and break even. But his outside game was substandard for an outside player. He was often unable to find much of the ball and his skills were too inconsistent. Up until round 18 it looked like he had too many weaknesses to ever be a good player, and if he wasn’t delisted he would soon be overtaken by the emerging talent.

Meanwhile the Lions had been trying all year to find the right combination of talls in the forward line. There’s Brown obviously, then the ruck/forward (Merrett then Lisle) and ...? Cornelius and Karnezis had be tried but weren’t good enough. Retzlaff and Staker had knee injuries. Kicking to Brown was becoming all too predictable, and the Lions were having difficulty marking the ball inside forward 50.

Then in the positional change of the year (at least for the Lions) Bewick was trialled up forward in round 20 against Carlton. The move showed promise straight away as Carlton were unable to find a good match up. They used Zach Tuohy, but Bewick was too fast for him. He took seven marks for the game, most of which were uncontested inside 50, with Tuohy left for dead four or five metres behind. Bewick had done what had proved so difficult for others - he was getting the ball kicked to him instead of Brown. He only kicked two goals and three behinds, but he had transformed the forward line. It was looking dynamic, multi-faceted and creative, with all of Brown, Lisle and Bewick finishing the year strongly. Bewick showed great pace on the lead and fairly good hands (although he did drop the occasional sitter) to finish with 18 marks in the last four rounds. And apart from the Carlton game his set shots were quite good, as he kicked eight goals, six behinds in the same period.

In a remarkable turnaround Bewick had not only saved himself from the scrapheap, but emerged as an important player in the team. He is a difficult matchup because he can mark the ball at a high point, but he is also proficient at gathering the ball at ground level and kicking goals around his body. To compliment this he has good speed and endurance which means he can meet the demands of a tight zone defence. Now one doesn’t want to get too far ahead of themselves after four good games (actually only three, as Port kept him fairly quiet) but for now, even if the Lions get Tippett, he is looking good for that third tall spot in round one of the 2013 season.

That highlight video truly shows just how well he played in that HFF position this year and just how much he improved. He was magnificent in front of goals and I look forward to seeing him improve even more in 2013! Go Bewick!

My favourite Bewick moment isn't even on that highlights package. It was that excellent 50m pass to Leuenberger in the goalsquare early in the game against the Demons in round one. He put in the inch perfect spot for the big man to hold off his opponent and take the mark.

Quite ironically I had that moment in the package until the last minute, when it and two others got cut to keep the video a reasonable length. Didn't help that the commentary didn't really suit (which is necessary for a highlights video), but now I feel like perhaps I should've left it in.

Either way its a great video.
