Delisted Rohan Bewick (2010-2018)

Becoming a very important member of our team now!

Not only are his goals very valuable but he is our main link man from the forward line. Works tirelessly and always presents, combines that with his pace to get space and provides an option. We don't have many others in our side at the moment who have the ability to do this so he's crucial to our ball movement, and helps limit our habit of bombing it to packs, where we don't have marking/ athletic players to benefit from that style.

Was great tonight. Didn't do everything perfectly, but made some intelligent leads up the ground, provided an option when we were clearing from the backline, kept Walker from doing any damage, and most importantly kicked three goals.

If he played like that every week we would be a significantly better team.

For those "wilderness years" under Lethal following the premierships, we were consistently unable to find genuine half forward flankers. Sherman and Corrie were about as good as it got and they were seriously flakey.

Such a treat to have Bewick and Zorko now in a very underrated position.

Not sure how to add articles in here but there is a quality one on the lions site called "Bewick making an impact", showing he has had the greatest contribution to the lions scoreboard this season, with 11 goals, 11 behinds, 9 goal assists and 3 behind assists, with a total impact of 134 points (with Zorko second on 121 points).

Really adding to us at the moment. Not the strongest bloke but a great reader of the play/ball in flight.I don't think he will drop off either and should consistently produce for a few more years.

One of my favourite players second half of last year and this year. I became a big fan after watching him play the second half of 2012 and have continued to be a fan ever since. He always seems to try really hard and he is a quality player. He can take a good grab and kick a nice goal. Accurate shot for goal both on the run and from a set shot situation. Love his defensive pressure as well. Has improved immensely in his time at the club and he has been a successful mature age pick up. He has gone in my eyes from a fringe, depth player to a definite best 22 player who I believe will be a solid part of the future team.

Bewick making an impact

No player has contributed more to the Brisbane Lions’ scoreboard this season than Rohan Bewick. Skipper Jonathan Brown might have kicked the most goals for the Club so far this season (15), but Bewick’s team-high nine goal assists gives him the edge in terms of total scoreboard impact.

The West Australian has kicked 11.11 and directly assisted in a further 9.3, for a total contribution of 20.14 – or 134 points. Bewick’s figures are even more impressive considering he ranked 9th at the Club last year in the same category with 149 points from 16 games, while Brown was the clear 2012 leader with 388 points.

Rohan Bewick and Andrew Raines responded to their senior omissions in the best possible fashion by leading the way for the Reserves out on the field. Bewick booted three goals and was listed as best-on-ground, while Raines wasn’t far behind with a sterling job in the midfield.

“They came back (to the Reserves) with the right attitude. They didn’t go outside the boundaries and just played to their strengths,” Harding said.

“They were obviously disappointed to be left out of the seniors, but played the way we wanted to, and took the young blokes along for the ride. It was great for their development.

Rohan Bewick - Rnd 14 Syd Guildford Trophy Nominee

After playing the opening 11 games of the season in the AFL, Rohan Bewick’s omission came as somewhat of a surprise - but his attitude in going back to the NEAFL was exemplary, and resulted in him winning the Round 14 nomination for the Syd Guildford trophy.

While playing predominantly as a half-forward in the Brisbane Lions AFL team, the chance to play in the NEAFL allowed Bewick to play in his favoured midfield position. He relished the role, kicking three goals on the way to a best on ground performance against Aspley.

While Bewick’s aspiration is obviously to regain a place in the Lions senior team, he said that the NEAFL provided him with an opportunity to work on other aspects of his game. “I needed to be a bit cleaner with the ball and work on getting the ball in a bit more traffic and working my way through congestion,” Bewick said.

Harding is one who believes that if Bewick maintains his consistency, a recall to the senior line up will not be far off. “He’s definitely put his hand back up again,” Harding said. “He played AFL standard footy at NEAFL level and that’s all you can do. “If he brings the right attitude, the rest (recall to the senior line up) looks after itself.”

Bewick is a dangerous player inside 50, but is fairly average outside. His good games are when he is able to take marks inside 50, but lately he has been getting all his touches on the wing. Don't know if that is a directive from the coaches or he isn't working hard enough, but either way it has resulted in him having less of an impact.

With Polkinghorne out, Bewick may take over as the most frustrating player in the team. Made some really costly mistakes. Whether he is the best man for the job in our team is debatable but he wouldn't be getting a game in a top eight team. He works hard but lacks poise and skill.

Agree. I found his game on Sunday incredibly frustrating - he either lost his feet at inopportune moments, turned the ball over with really bad results, or simply wasn't hard enough with his attempted tackles (hanging his arms out in a tackle instead of getting the body involved is no recipe for success).

On the positive side, did a few good things with his 20-odd possessions, but on balance should be lucky to get a game next week.

I've been critical of his work outside forward 50, but tonight I thought he presented really well on the wings. It was noted that St Kilda concede the most uncontested marks (or was it possessions?) in the comp and that played into Bewick's hands.

Coincidentally, he didn't do much inside the forward 50 last night, but I don't think it mattered too much. He constantly provided us with a target to switch to, or to move forward to, and was often the link player in transitions. Played a slightly different role to the usual leading forward position he plays most often, but I really liked what he was able to do.
