Rolling All Australian Team 2020

Duncan with an absolute certainty. I'd easily pick McCluggage too. I like watching Merrett too. Just pick the Geelong wingmen they deserve it.
Basis for this? Merrett is miles ahead in coaches votes (6th Duncan is not top 20) and pretty much every stat category (disposals, disposal efficiency, clearances, contested possessions, uncontested possessions, Metres gained.......)

The amount of teams without Boak in it is ******* staggering

You are taking the piss if you don't have him starting in the centre with Neale

Also Petracca has been in the top 3 mids all year so stop trying to push him on to a flank in order to get one of your favourite players in the starting midfield

Butters would be more deserving from Port pov. But Robbie has been building last month...

I also rather see DBJ get at least acknowledged in 40 squad, even over Jonas. Has not been beaten this year and provides much of our rebound when under elite pressure
Fair, but will they look at Port not being a high scoring team from defensive 50 as a reason not too?

This

Can't take anyone seriously if he's not included

Neale, Boak, Pertracca are 3 locks in the middle
I'd say there should be 4 locked in mids at this point. Neale, Boak, Petracca and Steele. It doesnt leave a lot of room for other players but the four of them have been the standout midfielders across the whole year

With one round left:

FB: Nick Haynes - Harris Andrews - Luke Ryan
HB: Caleb Daniel - Steven May - Brayden Maynard
MF: Sam Menegola - Cameron Guthrie - Zachary Merrett
HF: Christian Petracca - Tom Hawkins (c) - Daniel Butler
FF: Mitchell Wallis - Josh J Kennedy - Charlie Dixon
OB: Nic Naitanui - Lachlan Neale - Jack Steele
IC: Taylor Adams - Patrick Dangerfield - Travis Boak - Darcy Byrne-Jones

And a reserves for the hell of it:

FB: Bradley Sheppard - Sam Collins - Tom Jonas
HB: Jordan Ridley - Jacob Weitering - Adam Saad
MF: Mitchell Duncan - Clayton Oliver - Hugh McCluggage
HF: Liam Ryan - Jack Darling - Charlie Cameron
FF: Tom Papley - Matt Taberner - Tom Lynch
OB: Max Gawn - Ollie Wines - Dustin Martin
IC: Nick Vlaustin - Jackson Macrae - Marcus Bontempelli - Jy Simpkin

Personally - i don't think JK makes it anymore

He had a quality 4/5 week period - but pretty quiet other than that.

My personal view is Darling has had a better year.

Given Hawkins leads the Coleman - i'd be inclined to have him at FF, Dixon in a pocket and someone like Darling/Taberner/Gunston at CHF

Do people forget when May was on the brink of being dropped early in the season for being dogshit? Had an outstanding finish but body of work for the season
It the assessment is a body of work over the past couple of seasons, which the selectors tend to do, all things being equal, May's poor season last year might count against him.

R: Max Gawn - Lachie Neale - Jack Macrae
IC: Jake Lloyd - Josh J Kennedy - Clayton Oliver - Nic Naitanui

Geelong (#1), Port (#2) and Richmond (#3) have the best defense by far this season which is daylight to 4th.

Would there be a reason why the backline isn't mostly Geelong/Port/Richmond players?
AA selectors don't actually care about defenders defending

Utter bullshit, that never happened

That's a complete fabrication mate.

The top 5 defences are:

1. Collingwood (820 against)
2. Port Adelaide (824 against)
3. Geelong (838 against)
4. Richmond (841 against)
5. Fremantle (850 against)

Hardly any daylight there...

This is not an AA team but if I was picking a team to play a game tomorrow:

Grimes Andrews Howe
Whitfield McGovern Maynard
Bont Dangerfield Kelly
Martin Hawkins De Goey
C.Cameron Lynch Greene
NicNat Fyfe Cripps

Int: Pendlebury, Petracca, Neale, Blicavs
I like it.

Only change I would make is:
Out: Lynch
In: Dixon

Measuring a back line by using points against is so inaccurate

Wholeheartedly agree, but I feel if you're going to use woefully inadequate, skin deep qualitative measures to justify an opinion you should at least be accurate with them.
I didn't see where he used points against in the post you quoted?

Bang on. From memory this was after the same game where we were going to drop Petracca, trade Gawn for a ninth rounder, and remove David Neitz from all club records.
