Over Maxwell anyway, the bloke just doesn't have a brain while batting. Yeah he might have benefited by being able to play Shield or County, but in the World Cup he had opportunities to show he can play a substantial innings and failed every single time.

At least omitting starc is better than playing him!
My point exactly. How does a man get a chance to develop a brain or patience or the ability to grind out an innings if he’s constantly denied chances to play in the most suitable format. They see him as a hit n giggle merchant and he behaves like one. Go figure.

I think Starc under a bit of injury cloud don't no why there dropping him his class act taking so many 5fa and why would you leave him if they do leave him out it has to be Hazlewood over Siddle

Think of the makeup of the attack.

You have Cummins (certainty, has been our best bowler in the last 2 years), Pattinson (express, and in form). you aren't taking another express bowler, if you did you'd need a A/R at 6, as Starc is just as likely to be 0/100 than he is to roll a side, and he's more likely to be the 0/100 on form in red ball cricket.

You need a tie down an end, boring bowler to compliment Cummins and Pattinson. That's either Hazelwood or Siddle, OR even Michael Nesser.

He should have shown it in the WC. Had plenty of chances to build an innings.

Don't we need a left handed bowler making marks for Lyon to bowl into against the English right handers?

Meh such a minor thing rather pick the better in form bowler

Whoever they pick in the top 6 has some justification to being picked.

Except Marsh. He reminds me of some spoilt kid who is constantly enabled and starts to believe they are 'special'. WTF has he done since smashing balls to cover at catching height against India? Must drive some shield players mad that they miss out to this hack over and over again.

Dont mind either Hazlewood or Siddle. Although Siddle has taken 70+ plus wickets at under 20 for Essex and based on that deserves first crack.

Can you not see how contradicting that is. Bangers over Harris on county form yet Wade over Lab on Shield form despite Labs county form being better than Bangers and Harris Shield form being better than Wades.

You have to pick both the blokes who have been in England making first class runs
They don't have to do anything, cricket selection is as much art as science. I'd pick Bancroft and Labuschagne myself, but there is room in Test cricket for gut selections.

This panel deserve Australian of the Year awards if they finally leave Starc out though
Starc was one of the bowlers of the world cup and he is getting dropped for a player who played against some suburban 11's and took a few wickets in an intra-club match.

Starc was the one bowler England would've been having nightmares about, they will not believe their luck.

Yeah well every time Langer says one thing publicly he does the other. Not a good way to manage a side. He has made a few shocking calls in his time like Finch over Renshaw. Not a fan of JL as coach

Finch was certainly the wrong call in Australia but Renshaw has done nothing to suggest he should be in the team for quite a long time.

Starc 1-70 off 9 the English bats were having nightmares. He has been in terrible red ball form as of late and doesn’t deserve to be picked

Couldn’t disagree with you more...England and in particular Jason Roy will have loved Starc playing...he has proven in recent test appearances to be too inconsistent. Roy would love thrashing him through and over the off side.

Starc is a genuine top line one day bowler that cannot be questioned but I think we have better options in test cricket

Yeah but when the call was made in the UAE to go with Finch of the back of t20 runs in England over Renshaw making 1400 FC runs with 7 100s it was horrific. Renshaw’s form did turn to absolute s**t during the Shield season and should now be behind Warner, Bancroft, Harris and Burns for an opening spot but at the time that was a terrible call

At the same time they'll be cursing reduced run scoring opportunities

If anything, this supports the notion that gut feel calls are needed. Even England, who get lauded for their Smith/Taylor selection process are doing it with Roy.

Agreed in white ball cricket the batsmen has to go harder at the ball with Starc’s speed if he gets some sideways movement that’s incredibly dangerous where as in test you can let the ball go more and don’t have to take risks and you you know with Starc he bowls at least one s**t one an over that lets you off strike

No it doesn’t you pick Finch because you think making runs in T20 will lead to him having success at test level and it was an abject failure.

Also sliding doors moment maybe if Renshaw was backed by selectors he makes runs in the UAE and then goes back to Australia confident and potentially his form doesn’t fall off a cliff

The only nightmare England would have about Starc is how aren’t they hitting every one of his 9 balls in 10 to the fence! He bowls 1 good ball in 10.
