It's so easy to see through their Maxwell bullshit. Maxwell needs to focus on the WC? How about the bowlers?

Wade bats too deep? He bats at number 6. We're looking to replace our number 6. **** me Hohns is inept.

Plus Wade was effectively batting higher, since he had to perform numerous rescue missions due to collapses.

Other than all rounders who was the last aussie number 6 who batted 6 for his state. Batsmen have always pushed to bat higher at state level if they thought they were a chance
Coming in behind the likes of Jake Doran and Beau Webster isn't a good look. Tassie should have him batting higher when he's not pretending to keep wicket. But that is probably why they have him at six, to not shuffle the order too much between Paine being available and not.
As it is, he's coming in against a fairly new ball more often than not in the first innings. At least in Hobart games.

I would have (reluctantly) had him in, due to the lack of options, but can understand leaving him out. Renshaw is the pick that has me angry, it just smacks of picking in hope for England instead of picking to beat Sri Lanka.

It's not so much where the batsman himself wants to bat. I was involved in Grade cricket at A grade level for several years, and we were always guided by the wishes of the state selectors. If they were interested in selecting a player, the message would come through to the club that they wanted the player to occupy a top 4 spot. There was never any argument, the state selectors got what they wanted. I've always imagined the same went for Test selectors and state players, that's why I was a little surprised when I heard the Victorian selectors refused to open the batting with Finch at the request of the Test selectors.

His name sounds Serbian..First Serbian origin cricketer?
Apparently they have their own cricket team:

In the year 2007, a group of people came together in Belgrade with an aim to lay a foundation for Cricket in a Football obsessed nation. Throughout the past decade, they have gone through extreme challenges which a game has to see especially in its initial stage. However, they are enthusiastic as they were eleven years ago as Cricket in Serbia seems to be catching the attention of both the people and the media.

On such an occasion Caught at Point brings an exclusive interview of one of the founding members of Serbian Cricket, Vladimir Ninković, who is also the captain and coach of the national team apart from being General Secretary of the Serbian Cricket Federation.
Initially, we had a hard time in convincing the media and the sports community to take us seriously. The first couple of years the media coverage was rather small and slightly ironic, painting us as a bunch of eccentric enthusiasts who acted “English”, as one article put it. The sports media started following us in July 2010 when our national team had its debut at the so-called EuroT20 championship held in Skopje, Macedonia. Our membership in the Serbian Sports Federation in 2011 and the support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports since 2012 definitely made us look more serious in the eyes of the media and the sports community.

Currently, we are content both with the amount of coverage we receive and the way we are approached. Certainly, cricket is still far from being a big thing in Serbia, but I think we have done a good job in the previous 10 years.
Can you name some few upcoming prominent players who can be the face of Cricket Serbia in future?

There are quite a few of them who will be far better cricketers than we are.

Among U17’s Jovan Reb first comes to mind, a mentally strong medium-fast bowler who is also quite useful with the bat.

U15’s – our best generation, so many to pick: Nemanja Zimonjić the national team captain, Rahman Ademi, Matija Šarenac and Daniel Petrović – potentially the best allrounders in Serbian cricket, Vukašin Zimonjić – pace bowler, Dehran Bekteši – panther wicketkeeper and powerful batsman… They will all be involved in the national team by 2020 or 2021.

They bowled first 3 times and put the batsmen under enormous pressure letting India make big scores

250 & 283 in the first two tests before they encountered graveyards. The one test where Australia took a first innings lead they won the test, funny that hey? Not making excuses for them they were out bowled generally, though its not rocket science to suggest that when your batsman don't put runs on the board and you concede a first innings lead it makes it more difficult. The changes were rightly made from a batting perspective

One time they got a first innings lead was because Australia batted first!

MCG pitch wasn’t as bad as the Australian bowlers made it look. SCG was a road, always is, but they bowled poorly in Melbourne and the game was lost by stumps on day 2.

And on the other side of the coin, neither do you. But on the evidence, it’s extremely unlikely that he’s mentally ready for test cricket.
I never said I knew anything about his mental health right now. Frankly, it's none of my business.

It’s interesting seeing the responses from people in here. It shows that fans are just as inconsistent as the selectors. Picking Pucovski is absolutely a gut feel selection, picking Renshaw has been done on no form, Burns has failed previously, much like Handscomb. The selection method hasn’t changed at all, people are just happy for a change. If they don’t work out, people will rage against the selectors again. Rinse and repeat.

Warner's straight in. He has the runs on the board, so to speak. Blokes that average nearly 50 in Test cricket are gold to us right now. Burns can fit into the line up, doesn't have to open. Certainly won't be a lack of spots!
Averages 37 in England with 0 tons.

Ok who would be in your squad instead?

No Marsh is just about the best news I've had all year! Puvovski? Ok... as 13th or 14th man, sure. In the 11? No.

All the changes are good. Handscomb needs a year of playing Shield and showing he can really play forward. His technique is rubbish. I'd rather play Pukovski over him.

The first time he looked OK with thw bat, but nearly lost Lyon his career through missed chances.
The second time he was poor with gloves and bat. Now, he's probably in career best batting form in the Shield.

But, unlike some, I don't give a toss about age. The best available get the spot, not someone with unproven "potential". Its Test cricket. Everyone should be earning their spot. And that what really shits me about Renshaw's inclusion. Yes, he got runs in the county season, but right now he can barely put together a Mitch Marsh score. Put him the tour game if you want, but on form getting near the Test squad is a gift. They may as well have picked Bancroft, at least he's not proven to be in shite form (and, no, I'm not suggesting he should have come in).
So you score 1400 first class runs in a calendar year at 21 and you are a s**t selection?

Yet Pucovski and the state administration decided to continue to play him in his big innings despite the fact he had told them he clearly wasn’t feeling right that morning. Picking him for Australia at this time is negligent. There is no chance in the world that he’s mentally ready for this pressure.
Armchair expert

Ffs we played siddle at 35 and Bryce mcgain at 36 get a clue age is nothing Paine got picked over 30 and not in the states best 11
Wade has failed twice why go back to him. He has shown that he is not up to it. If he went in and failed everyone here would melt about why was he even in the side

Mitch and Shaun Marsh beg to differ on that.

Given how poorly we’ve batted the last 12 months, we can’t afford to be turning down the Shield’s leading run scorer who’s been in red hot form for over 12 months now.
Look just because Marsh x2 kept getting a go and kept failing doesn’t mean that’s a good path to follow with other players

As a QLDer, super excited to see Renshaw, Burns and Labuschagne all in the squad.

From a neutral standpoint, I can understand why people get frustrated with selections at times as it is so far beyond inconsistent it has become a running joke.

Hard to defend Renshaw in the sense that he definitely hasn’t earned his spot back through from. I think he has got his spot back because the others picked in front of him have failed so they now revert back to him in the hope he finds form. It’s a s**t situation that should sit solely on the board of selectors. On potential/age and what he can offer and some of what he has produced so far at test level is at least promising.

Burns has definitely earned another shot through from and has at least performed adequately at test level so no arguments there. However if they picked Burns, they probably should have picked Wade as well based on Shield form this season.

Labuschagne is a strange one. I feel he got picked in the test squads this year based on last seasons shield form and not this seasons as this season he has been underwhelming. So it’s almost like they were running out of options and picked him based on what he had done previously for the Bulls and not what he was currently doing for them. And the fact he took wickets in the UAE with part time leg spin has obviously stimulated the selectors brain circuitry. Showed promise in the 4th India test but hasn’t earned a spot through domestic form I have to admit this season. In saying that though I reckon he could become a specialist in Sub Continental tours in the future.

Further to that at least all the sackings make sense and can’t argue with but you can argue that the likes of Finch, Mitch and Handscomb shouldn’t have been picked in the first place. Finch isn’t even in the best 5 Sheffield Shield batsman for his state!!! I’d have Handscomb, Harris, Pucovski, White and Maddinson as better long form Batsman for Victoria than Finch. This is a guy who averages in the 20’s for Victoria and wasn’t even in their Shield side 2 years ago!

Shaun Marsh should have been dropped a long time ago but can see why they persisted with him originally.

Mitch Marsh needs to decide where he sees his future and focus on it because if he keeps getting selected as an all rounder on potential and is not having success, maybe for his sake he should maybe just focus on one discipline and master it and become a part timer in the other discipline because being average in both disciplines is not working. Might just be better off trying to become a specialist bat and then just view his bowling as a handy back up bowler if needed

This is good news. So many of these associate and affiliate teams are made up of cricket hungry desis and a few British and Australian expats. The presence of the game in the immigrant community is not really a real indicator for the growth of the game in that particular country and unless you get the people who are native to that particular region interested in the sport, there's no real scope for the sport in that country.

In this case, it's refreshing to see the presence of so many young Serbian kids at junior levels taking up cricket, hopefully the penetration of the game increases in the country and we see emergence of new cricketing nations like Serbia.
