Just seems a waste. Imagine England seeing a team with one of those spinners...they’d be saying “you Beauty”. They might name one I just don’t agree with it.

Why is England going to be licking their lips at average spin? Because they're so trained against the arts of spin by facing Adil Rashid and Jack Leach?

Average spinner >>> part-timers bowling to keep us at an acceptable over rate.

Give England a choice between facing say a Jhye Richardson and facing a Jon Holland...I’m almost certain which one they’d rather face. Pick Holland off 3-4 an over no troubles really.

This is why I wouldn’t take a specialist second spinner but rather use a Head type if need be. Some won’t agree but that’s my view.

Head can be used as relief that’s all I’d be bowling him. Ideally he wouldn’t bowl a ball. The 4 quicks can do the job. I’m a fan of picking your best bowlers period, if one isn’t a spinner then use your 4 quicks and just make sure you hustle between overs as to not get the over rate out of hand. Bowl your most dangerous bowlers. Not sure why we need a second spinner when they are all poor to below poor.

If there was a test quality second spinner sure- not sure there is especially if OKeefe is in the “never again” basket and his style of bowling won’t do well in England anyway

The second spinner should be Lahamburger, he's the reverse Smith. Picked as a batsman when really, he's a bowler. Unfortunately, he doesn't look in the same reverse class as Smith but there is bowling potential there.

Lol, no he isn't. He's a mediocre batsmen who happens to bowl when the captain gives him the ball. That's it. Really shouldn't be in the Test side at all.

Second spinner should be Maxwell. He can do a holding / relieving job better than Head or Labanana and adds batting depth.

At some point, Maddinsons form is going to be too hard to pass on.

Clearly they have always rated him since he was picked when he wasnt ready or really performing THAT well.

His form might just demand he be in the squad at this point

I think he's booked himself an A tour at the very least.

It’s funny, last round every was getting excited because a couple of players they wanted in made runs on a very flat pitch where both sides had poor bowling attacks.

This week they struggled whilst Maddinson keeps making runs and yet doesn’t even get considered. If he keeps making tons for fun, he will be on the tour.

I don't think so. Averages 50 odd in first class with the ball, at at least 4 an over. That's after a fair bit of opportunity as well. Way more batting potential if I was choosing between the two in my opinion

Yeah, you'd have to think so. Funny how we all of a sudden have some options. The people in and around the team are generally performing (Renshaw and Labu, who shouldnt be in the team regardless, probs the only exceptions) and then you have Maxwell, Pucovksi and Maddinson putting pressure on.

Good spot to be in, can all change very quickly though

Pucovski playing in his 10th FC match - now has 752 runs @ 50, including 3 tons and a 50. One of those tons being the double earlier this season. Some really juicy numbers and he's a breath of fresh air to watch as well. Hope to see him get some Australia A tours under his belt.

Weirdly seems we now have loads of decent looking options. Harris, Burns, Patterson, Head, Wade, and Maxwell would all be deserving of playing and even say Bancroft or Madinson you could look at.

Or something like that. Don't think Holland is worth taking. Wade gives you an option with the bat and backup keeper. Figure you need two backup quicks over there.

Interested to see if that last pace spot does indeed go to Tremain, or whether they favour Bird or even Boland.

Tremain has been the best bowler in Shield cricket over the past 2-3 seasons (yes, even ahead of Chadd Sayers, who has had a very mediocre year, as he is want to do every 2nd or 3rd season), but if we're going on this season's results so far, Bird and Boland have been slightly better and more economical.

Interestingly, Trent Copeland has been taking wickets at a higher rate than ever, as is just as miserly on the economy side, too. I feel like his ship has well and truly sailed, though, and he'll be relegated to the broadcast team only.
