That's what I hate about that song - it's essentially just Kayne rapping over a Daft Punk song - how can people possibly see that as a production masterpiece?
There is a huge debate in Hip Hop circles about Kanye's production talents, essentially because he rarely does a song where he doesn't sample vocals or instruments. One camp argues that its not real production if you don't do the work yourself, the other says it still takes an incredibly skilled person to select the write samples.

Im probably more in the latter than the former, as if it were such a simple task then you or me could easily create a beat like that of Stronger and a host of others and become millionaires. Taking a sample can take skill, if used correctly. IMO this is where Stronger fails. Kanye makes a very good beat and chooses a great sample- the lyricism is where it fails him as the song is rather bland and boring from then on. Not that there aren't some great tracks on that album, but stronger is not one of them

I don't doubt it takes skill to do a sample well, same as any band really, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are more skilled then their equals. For example, Grinspoon have some great songs like More Then You Are and Black Friday, but the lyrics are nonsense and their is no outstanding ability in the musicianship. They made some good songs without any real above average qualities other then managing to find an interesting hook. Meanwhile, artists of a similar note like the Living End have an incredible guitarist and Spiderbait has an excellent drummer

The way many people and critics talk about Kayne would make you think he is a genius, but a catchy song does not make a genius
