Squiggle tips Saints at 51% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
No point going in with 10 men and a beach ball either. It's a tough decision but if Warner and Smith come back the experience is there, not saying either should be captain though; think that should be maxwellThat would mean you go into a World Cup with a brand new captain, so no I don’t think Khawaja will take Finch’s spot
Your like reverse nostradamus kawaja, handscomb and Turner all to go lol.Yep, I’d assume you’ve nailed it.
I’d say NCN would rival Hazlewood for that first XI spot and Behrendorff will go as insurance for Starc if he goes down. I don’t think Lyon makes it as it isn’t in Asia and a second spinner won’t be required. I do wonder though if the selectors will want to risk both Hazlewood and Starc coming back from long-term injury lay offs. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Hazlewood was an unlucky omission as you aren’t leaving out Starc with a record like he has. Plus, NCN isn’t a downgrade on Josh anyway, plus he offers lower order hitting.
I’d imagine both Khawaja and Handscomb go, Turner is just a placeholder I’d think, not even really in consideration.
So long story short, I think Hazlewood might miss out altogether with NCN in the first XI and J.Richardson and The Dorff going in spots 14 and 15.
1. Warner
2. Khawaja
3. S Marsh
4. Smith
5. Handscomb (wk)
6. Maxwell
7. Stoinis
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Zampa
11. Hazelwood
12. Carery
13. Turner
14. Coulter-Nile
15. Richardson
Stoinis and Hazlewood currently on the fringes of the XI.
wow @ last night.
turner gets a game because of an injury to stoinis and delivers.
the last 2 odi's khawaja and handscomb have made their 1st odi tons.
makes things interesting now.
still think its a case of putting 19 into 15 (current squad plus warner/smith/starc/hazlewood - if fit).

Players performing and asking a lot of selectors, which is a good thing. I don't think you can play Khawaja and SMarsh once Warner and Smith are back, Khawaja is in fine form, but SMarsh has been the form ODI player of the last year. I wouldn't have had Handscomb in the team, but he's delivering, and Turner just put his name forward. Hard calls will have to be made.
Ideally, based on current form, you'd have Khawaja open and SMarsh at three, dropping Finch. But we don't live in ideal times, there's no obvious captain and for that reason alone, Finch will be retained. I don't like it, but I'm not making any predictions where Finch isn't captain and playing in the World Cup.The hard call is that Finch should not have been retained as captain, and should have been dropped. Then he made a good 93 in the 3rd ODI, which buys him some time (selected for the Pakistan series, and retained as captain) and makes dropping him more difficult.
But if Khawaja, Handscomb, Maxwell and Turner continue in their good/great form, and Finch doesn't improve, then he needs to be dropped. The best way to put him on notice is to make someone else captain of the team.

it also comes down to conditions
handscomb good against spin....suspect against the moving/seaming ball...
pick a squad that can adapt to the conditions....which I think the selectors are doing
ODI pitches in England are different test pitches. You will be facing 20+ overs of spin. I'd rather Handscomb there than a few. Having Smith, Handscomb, and Maxwell who all play spin well in the middle order forces teams to not bowl spinners where they want to
Yes and no...its not the subcontinent.. yes some pitches will be drier than others....but its England it will seam and swing....pick the team to suit the conditions...that's what I think the selectors are banking on...we have the squad and assets to exploit the conditions
if its dry we go for two spinners handscomb is considered
if its wet we play a traditional team..3 quicks one spinner allrounder.....handscomb not considered

Have you actually watched ODI cricket in England in the last say 3-4 years? Their side is all about big scores, flat as anything pitches. Spinners will play a massive holding role. It's not going to swing around bar the first few overs. They want pitches that help their side which include Hales, Buttler, etc who feast on flat pitches.
The amount of times I've heard commentators over in England say "it's going to swing" in a ODI in the last 2 years...and it doesn't. Pitches are just very different to what they produce in a test match.
That's fine, the flatter the more it helps us.
