Agreed. Stoinis is woeful. Not international standard anything.

It’s a bad thing we are calling for Marsh to be recalled!

That’s how bad Stoinis is!

I think Stoinis will still go to the WC. Selectors have shown a tendency to hold onto players through poor form. Plus the side has been winning.

His form is probably good for MMarsh. If the form continues to be bad, they'll want backup. Powerful all rounders are incredibly important to the balance of the side.

Who misses out for MMarsh will be the difficult call. A batsman? Lyon perhaps? Dont know. Tough job selecting this squad.

I really dont know. I'm just guessing - but having an underperforming all rounder who is struggling big time with the bat and isn't the greatest ODI bowler would be a concern given how important they are.

I’d rather just not take Stoinis personally. Flat out he’s been underwhelming to say the least

last world cup - bailey, m.marsh, cummins and Doherty were primarily the bench players and sat out the final.

bailey - only played as cover for Clarke in the opening game coming off injury
Doherty - only played the game in Sydney
m.marsh - played as cover for Faulkner coming off injury at the start of tournament and then 1 game when we dropped watto.
cummins - basically fought out the last spot throughout the tournament with hazlewood.

I'm guessing warner was probably touted as the back up keeper in that world cup.

it seems a theme we take 2 reserve bats of some sort and 2 reserve bowlers of some sort to world cup.

looking at '07 the reserves were hodge, haddin, Johnson, s.clark. (no wonder why we won - strong side) and missing B.Lee (inj).

I think we have committed to Stoinis now.

Problem is the 6th bowler if he doesn't play or more so if a bowler breaks down during a match without completing their allotted 10 or gets spanked hard.
End of the day the 6th bowler will probably average 4 overs per game.
If its going to be a high scoring tournament anyways maybe Finch/Smith chime in with a few as much as I hate to say that.

I’d pick MMarsh. Can easily bat 5-6 and isn’t as slow as a tortoise early like Stoinis is. I can separate limited overs cricket and test. Marsh should not play years again but he’s a great limited overs cricketer

So would I....Marsh is back bowling and has taken wickets in the WC in the past... 5 against england game one of the last WC

I honestly believe Marsh is a better bowler than Stoinis.....and there batting is par anyway....stoinis out of form atm and struggles to rotate the strike

It would be a tough call but I would pick Marsh over stoinis...if they want and allrounder

But I reckon they might stick with stoinis for some reason M Marsh does not seem to be in there ODI plans atm

His test cricket form is woefull.....but his ODI form is not that bad

I just think having marsh bowl close to 140 with stoinis stuggling to get over 130 gives us another option of playing the two specialist spinners in Lyon and Zampa

Maxwell provides the backup

Zero doubt about this. Stoinis is a medium pace trundler at best. Mitch was back bowling as well, if not better than ever in the last few rounds of the shield. Easily would have been up around the 140’s again. Stoinis will get belted on the flat English ODI wickets.

Well and the fact he's a better bat at ODI level too...Stoinis is just well...ordinary

With how poor his bowling is you would think to get a spot stoinis would have to be another finisher who can come in and score quick right away but his only batting success has been when he has lots of time to chew up deliveries before launching and we already have plenty of those types in the side, he could probably help steady a badly faltering top order but you cant just pick your number 6 assuming the top order will fail as a failing top order means no chance at this WC anyway.

Stoinis is the most over rated player in the Australian set up at the moment

To be fair to Stoinis, he did come into the summer as one of our most important ODI players for a reason. But then had a poor summer & now Asian tour which went under the radar in the media. Whereas Shaun Marsh only has to have a poor Indian leg of the Asian ODI's and out come the drums.

according to The Age, squad expected to be named next Monday, along with CA contract list and Australia 'A' team for tour of England.

I can't see them waiting that long because it will leak out. Someone's wife will tell someone etc. etc. I would be surprised if they haven't announced it before the end of the week.
