Ronaldo vs Messi - who is the best?

Ronaldo started as a winger. Played and dominated in England, Spain, and Italy as the big clubs. Messi dominated La Liga. Ronaldo started as a winger then played as a striker. Messi won the world cup with Argentina nailing 7 goals. Scored 4 in 2014 as a runner up. Won a couple of Copas too Ronaldo won the euros in 2016.

Purely as a player it's Messi for me. But I liked CR7s career better, he played and dominated in more leagues under different situations, while he has natural ability he turned himself into a machine, guy is as professional as they come.

Messi's numbers look better but Ronaldo has dominated the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, returned to the PL at 37 and still did well, and is still doing it at 40 years old in a Saudi League which is slowly becoming more and more respectable.

Messi killed it for 20 years in a club where every detail was moulded around him, then left and hardly set the world on fire in Ligue 1 (IMO the weakest of Europe's top 5 leagues), and now strolls around in the retirement home of MLS.

Personally, I think CR7 has done it better, in better leagues, for longer. The only blemish on his CV is obviously the missing World Cup.

Messi is obviously the more talented player, but Ronaldo is the peak of athletic performance and it shows.

Ronaldo being touted as the GOAT on youtube is bullshit. Messi is unless Ronaldo wins the world cup next year. Maradona and Pele also can be considered the GOAT.

Mbappe better than both imo. 12 goals in two world cups. Ronaldo had 2 in his first two and Messi just one.

If Ronaldo leads Portugal to glory next year he'll overtake Messi imo. But it depends how he plays rather than the whole squad.
