It's a shame that we didn't get pick up Isiah; there's a lot to be said for a Cat. B spot, not only for a young indigenous player to come to an AFL club, but for the club itself to have an extra kid inside the TPP.

But it's not always easy - the kid might not have been ready, or the club might have found its list already rounded out enough. Hard to say from the outside, where we are.

I agree. Like to see the club carrying the full quota of Cat B rookies but I guess finding prospects isn't necessarily the easiest thing. Hopefully we're still looking at potential Irish recruits as well.

I reckon they would've taken him if our draft didn't go the way it did, we're pretty right for small forwards now, but I'd prefer best available when it comes to CB rookies, but that's just me.

So you think IF we missed Kirby we would of got Isiah?

Even Daicos Dave, in the end we got 2 small forwards, if we'd missed on either it's possible we might have found a role for Isiah, this is just IMO of course, but to nominate him and pass it's the most logical reason I can think of.

or He might not wanted to Move to the City

I doubt passing on Isiah had anything to do with oversupply. It's a Cat B rookie spot & I'm guessing we thought he wasn't up to it.

We obviously rated his football ability, I'm guessing we'll never know the real reason.
If we could've got a "feel good story" out of him, with the proviso he was worth a Cat B we would've, IMO.

It's also possible we've caught the scent of someone else, maybe another Yank? Could even be an Irishman on the radar.

I doubt we'll go into season 2017 with only one CB rookie anyway.

Don't we have 2 Cat-B Spots Left?

The Bombers just signed a Cat B rookie from their multicultural academy... Does this mean it's actually not too late for us to take Isiah?

Final List Lodgement

I did post this ^ the other day in one or two places. So finally the lists are complete, it seems. I thought we had to take Isiah the other night if we were going to take him, what I read said the Nominated Academy players had to be taken straight after the Rookie Draft. Strange that Essendon have been able to take this chap as a Next Generation Academy player (Cat. B Rookie), but he wasn't one of the 6 players they nominated a few months back, according to the list I've seen.

He turned 18 on the day of the rookie draft.

That would make him a bottom aged player. Maybe the club thought he wasn't ready?
Very possibly. It obviously would have been a very big step for the young lad to have taken, and if the club had real doubts about how he would have handled the move, probably thought it wise not to risk having our first (Academy) recruit from that region not succeed. Of course it could also be that his form of late hasn't been too impressive (I presume he's been playing in Darwin) so they passed on taking him.
