Rookie Draft

Of course, I'm sure West Adelaide pay him a lot more than that.

It's not West Adelaide paying him that I'm thinking of. It's the other job he has that pays his bills.
After Joel finishes his human movement course, he has thought of adding a teaching element to qualify to be a physical education teacher. He has also looked into joining the fire service.

There is a dream and then there is how much to sacrifice, the longer you go in life the less flexible you can be. Kids, wife, mortgage etc.

True, and all good points. However, if he doesn't want to be a 45k p.a. rookie, then you'd think he wouldn't nominate for the rookie draft, yes?

So have you heard anything to suggest he doesn't want to be a rookie? I'd think he'd make it clear he's not interested in being drafted if that was the case. I think it's also a non issue for Freo as I doubt the recruiters will call his name, anyway.

Exactly who is left from the draft that we would be interested in recruiting and I would suggest midfielders will be top of our list with the loss of Pitt and Mitchie .
Moro could breakdown again and we need insurance if that happens ,not that I would wish that on him in any shape or form . Just love him and the effort he is putting in .
Mellington I would suggest would not be a priority for us but if he is still available the Club will re rooky him only to show faith with our last pick if he is still available since he had a year to go on his contract before his desire to look for a better chance to get more games at another club
Mature age HB should also be on our radar .

I think Carltank are a chance to grab Thorp before we do. I'd like to think we'd grab Joel Tippett, but I think you're right. If he's going to get picked up it will be before our first pick, and even if he's available, as much as I like what I've seen of him, I don't think Freo will pick him up.

My tip is Chris Cain and Mellington with Lester-Smith also coming on board. Mellington is only because the club has said they would. Cain is the bloke who is a mature age player who dominated the state match between VFL and WAFL state teams. He is a fantastic runner who I think could be re-positioned to play down back as a small defender if required. The Inside Footy magazine said we were really keen on him just after the state game. With the addition of three tall players via draft and trading I hope we go for a midfileder with our only live pick (presuming we are redrafting Mellington and selecting Lester-Smith as a f/son).

As good as Cain might be, he'll be 27 in 2014. If he spends a year on the rookie list and then gets elevated he'll be 28. Considering most footballers are entering the twilight at 30, I think his age will count against him.

I'll repeat myself. Sorry, but I am adding to it.
Eli Templeton,
Here's what Knightmare wrote about him:
#34 Brisbane (via Port Adelaide) – Eli Templeton (TAS – Util)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 67kg, DOB: 19/08/1995
Recruited from: Burnie Dockers
Style: James Kelly
Player comparison:
Range: 25-late
Profile: Templeton is a high production, high motor midfielder with the versatility to also play forward or back. Has a very light body but despite this has a very advanced game and has dominated throughout his junior footy with his form in the u16s particularly dominant but then has also played plenty of senior footy in Tasmania showing he can mix it with the bigger bodies. Templeton is a very clean user of the footy and uses it well by hand and foot. A real accumulator and has the ability to do some damage with a penetrating kick on him as well as his ability to hit the scoreboard. Templeton can win some of his own ball but given his light frame likely finds a role as an outside player.
Maybe, I'm looking too closely at the Tassie connection, but he sounds good.

Looks like we chose his Burnie Docker teammate instead. I think if we go midfield it should probably be a top notch clearance player. Just my opinion though.

Yeah agree I'm pretty sure we'll have the oldest list in the league in 2014 so I'd hope we don't go anymore mature agers who will have a limited shelf life.

how about Jake Greiser?
I think he led the TAC in clearances & although small at 181cm, is a really hard at it type with a great work ethic.

I picked up my Brother from Victor Harbor (Schoolies) last night and had a couple of beers in the pub there. Darcy Hourigan was there and had I had a talk to him about him not getting drafted, he is the most Arrogant, up himself tosser I have ever met. He was saying things like "I should have gone top 25, I'm better then 80 % of the people drafted." And then he said "if I don't get picked up there is something seriously wrong with the f***en AFL. Hope we don't pick this bloke up, maybe that's why he didn't get drafted.

Might be one of the reasons, but he's also fat and not that good.

Eli Tempelton Reminds me of another ex player we recruited and was light on and didn't have any luck in
Tim Ruffles .
After doing his ACL he was not able to get back into the team .
Great little footballer with heaps of courage but his body couldn't take the ruff and tough AFL .
These type of players are fine young kids but when push comes to shove they struggle .
67 kgs is way too light and he would take 3 or 4 years to get his body into the body right and TBH he would have to be tearing it up to be worth the time and effort .

Can someone put up the list of those available from the draft so that we know who is left to draft as a rooky please as we need to know the nominees and then we have at least a clue who's left also the order of club picks

I'm hearing we are looking at a player called Darcy Hourigan in the rookie draft.

*sigh* hope not......

We already have a state league defender in Silvagni, why would we need Tippett?

The guy we should be going after is Alex Georgiou - 23 year old, 188cm defender from Norwood. Easily the best mature aged defender not already on an AFL list. He is the closest thing you'll find to Shane Parker. Excellent defender who can play tall or small, and one of the more awkward looking footballers you'll see. Not a big rebounder, but that's not what we need. A strong third/fourth tall is what we need however.

A few names to be considered by us . If anyone can enlighten us about them I would really like to hear from you
Josh Bench Barry Round medal winner from the western Jets.
Sam Bennett from North Ballarat Rebels .
Jake Best from Casey Scorpions .
I was looking on Draft Tracker and they caught my eye .

Having a read on the Draft board we have picks 16, 32 and 44 with the last one committed to Ryan as Father Son Rookie.

If I'm reading the rules correctly we can announce today at list lodgement 3 that we are taking Sean Hurley or it may be announced in the time between the PSD and the Rookie Draft.
