He's listed as a small forward, but like Josh Simpson, I see him being very good off of half back and on a wing. Jeez he's got some pace and agility too.

My wish list would be Joel Tippett, Charlie Cameron and Eli Templeton. Although I'm pretty sure we'll get none of those.
Yeah, but our Rookie drafting has been pretty good so hopefully they pull another no name that turns out to be best 22.

Hopefully another team wants Mellington. My choice would actually be Cain and two key position players if possible. Is Lester-Smith a lock for one of our selection? it seems weird that he is not training with us yet, unless he has an injury I dont know about.

Well yeah hopefully, but if our cap allows it just pay him out. I struggle to see the circumstances where he actually gets a game especially if he is just here for 1 more season.

Oh, little Eli that everyone seems to love. He does sound pretty good .
Sounds like Freo might want ready made players for a flag tilt, if they are (allegedly) sniffing around Cain and Tippet.

Watching the state game this year Cain simply looked a class above. A lot can happen in a year and I think having another gun mid could be really beneficial. Cain plays like a quicker, more skillful version of the Gu in that he can run all day. I think that if we pick him as a rookie it would round off our recruiting in 2013 nicely. Three talented kids drafted for the future and Gumby, Sylvia and Cain for a tilt at the flag next year. I REALLY hope we pick Cain,

We have enough talls now I would think.

In the GF we suffered really badly from being a medium sized HBF defender short with Ibbotson and Clancee both out and Sutcliffe having to fill that role and getting spanked for body size. Also we came to rely really heavily on Spurr. Forster was meant to be developing in that role but never made it.

While it shouldn't be the case that both of those guys (Ibbo/C. Pearce) will also be missing again and/or Spurr as well, this is another area I would be looking to fill. Depending on how they rate the recovery risk of Ibbo and Clancee might decide if they go a younger 20-23 year old or the absolute ready to go mature player like Cain.

With the loss of Michie in particular and questions around Mora another mid could also be on the cards If someone like Cain can play either HBF or in and under mid then I could see why they might be keen on him.

Always thought Bower was extremely unlucky to be cut by Carlton. Seems to want the second chance a lot and can play on smalls and talls. Very good back up option if required. I'd like versatile types tomorrow, as these guys will start of as depth players. A guy that can play as a medium defender/midfielder would be absolutely ideal.

Tippett when previously at afl level was mainly used as a forward/ruck. Sometimes a change in position can make all the difference. Having said that I do believe they're better options available.

There are about 5 clubs ahead of us that want him by the sounds of it.

Sydney have joined the race to secure Joel Tippett in tomorrow's rookie draft who is regarded as the best full back outside of the AFL.

Gotta get in before Collingwood, which isn't possible if they go for him in the first round.

His brother is an absolute w***er of the highest order, it may unfair to taint him with the same brush but I do not want him at our club

Lets hope this is true.

Mitch Thorp
Club: South Launceston
D.O.B: 25.12.1988
Height: 194cm
Weight: 94kg
Position: Key Forward
Plays Like: Mitch Clark
Mitch Thorp – who was famously selected at pick 6 for Hawthorn in the 2006 draf, is perhaps better known for being the player rated higher than Joel Selwood, and later dumped by the Hawks after a few senior games. Nonetheless, since captain/coaching South Launceston to a premiership this year in the TSL, as well as taking home the league’s best and fairest, Mitch Thorp – now 24 is a different man and player since being drafted. A gun forward capable of winning games off his own boot, Thorp has a big aerobic base and offers the ability to take big pack marks as well as be agile enough to roam a ground-level ball and find his way through to goal. There are some initial thoughts on Thorp, those being that it might be a case of a “big fish in a small pond”, which probably underlines the TSL competition in itself. Some recruiters believe they want to see Thorp play a season in the VFL to get a gauge on just how good he could be, but the jury still seems to be out on Thorp and whether or not he will get his opportunity this year.
Who’s Looking? The Western Bulldogs, Carlton and Fremantle were the clubs that had shown interest in Cain in the lead up to the draft, but the Bulldogs and Blues have reportedly put a line through his name.

Questions for clarification.

I know that we can have at most 4 category A (due to our main list reaching 40) and 3 category B rookies but there are a number of questions I have about Category B rookies.

Do the Category B rookies come under the same conditions for promotion as Category A. i.e. a main list spot has to be vacant (in our case due to a player joining the long term injury list)?
Do Cat B have a time after which they must transition to the Cat A or main lists?
Why do some clubs have development programs that qualify but not all clubs?

The reason I ask is because if these are the terms I would assume that Moller will be here for as long as humanly possible given Sandi, Griff, Clarke, Hannath and Apeness are all main list players. And I would assme if we took our Irishman he would be treated the same way. i.e. Dire emergency only.

As in Cains case do we need a 27 yr old Mid on our list who would be competing against some of our gun mids for a game . Might suit Peel but doubtful if he would make Freo's main list and could turn out to be the classic list clogger.

I assume if we select him, he won't be a list clogger.
As we now have a very balanced list, we have the freedom to spend the next 3 or four years choosing the best midfielders the country has to offer with our first two picks of the main draft. If they think Cain can fill a need now and be a quality back-up in case we lose one of our main midfielder's, why wouldn't you have him for 3-4 years. Having said that, Lloyd said yesterday that he has no idea who we are taking in the rookie draft, so most of the speculation is just that.

We do not have a lot of 27+ year olds so from a list balance point of view it would not be the worst idea, although if his is not best 22 straight away it would be a no. (I thought he was only 25)

It is very hard for me to see him fitting into our best 22, but if Bond, Lloyd and co select him I have faith in them to make the right decision. Someone compared him to Mzungu, but with elite skills so their may be a role for him in our best 22 after all.

From Snoop's rookie draft

Chris Cain – Port Melb / 181cm / 83kg / ‘87
Destined for the AFL after some stellar seasons in the VFL. His coach is a massive wrap on him and has been mooted to land at WCE, Freo or Collingwood all year. Classy type who if you saw the state game got a good insight into his game. Can play fwd and middle, has really good vision and decision making and ball use is elite. Will play more as a fwd would think early and has strong hands which you want in middle / fwds along with the ability to read the ball early. Very good 1:1. Ticks all the boxes for mine.

If we drafted Cain, Thorp and one of Mellington or Lester-Smith I would be very happy.

Peels midfield is quite poor with the loss of Michie. It has poor depth, I'd like our recruits to grow in an environment where they win more than 1-2 games per year. A couple of excellent WAFL/VFL level midfielders is just what we need.

We wouldn't be interested in Cain if the only string on his bow is that he's a midfielder. If we draft him it'd be because the club sees him as ready to go in the Lee Spurr mould. Not neccesarily role wise but the same propensity to force his way in at someone elses expense and stay in.

Went looking for Cain's video summary on the AFL App & found Richard Bourne's instead. Not much of him, but the East Freo boy looks to have some serious skills. Prob don't need another small fwd though.

It's been confirmed now we have picks 16, 32 and 47 in the Rookie Draft.

And from the looks of it we aren't taking Sean Hurley or Ryan Lester Smith...

What makes you think this? We have another week to decide don't we? Club Twitter only said yesterday they were happy with the way he's going about it and his conditioning!!

Sean Hurley would be a cat B rookie like Moller and outside the main rookie list I think
