I'll repeat myself. Sorry, but I am adding to it.
Eli Templeton,
Here's what Knightmare wrote about him:
#34 Brisbane (via Port Adelaide) – Eli Templeton (TAS – Util)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 67kg, DOB: 19/08/1995
Recruited from: Burnie Dockers
Style: James Kelly
Player comparison:
Range: 25-late
Profile: Templeton is a high production, high motor midfielder with the versatility to also play forward or back. Has a very light body but despite this has a very advanced game and has dominated throughout his junior footy with his form in the u16s particularly dominant but then has also played plenty of senior footy in Tasmania showing he can mix it with the bigger bodies. Templeton is a very clean user of the footy and uses it well by hand and foot. A real accumulator and has the ability to do some damage with a penetrating kick on him as well as his ability to hit the scoreboard. Templeton can win some of his own ball but given his light frame likely finds a role as an outside player.
Maybe, I'm looking too closely at the Tassie connection, but he sounds good.

Now he has a shockin' haircut but this is one endearing fact: he's a Freo fan.

I won't go posting it, but there's a photo of him as a young kid in the old, green Dockers jumper.

Highlights look good. Has a genuine footy brain and you can see that in the way he runs. I don't really care about highlights packages at all, but he does identify the flight of the ball and he seems to know where the play's going.

Unfortunately, he's 182cm. I'm not sure if that's tall enough for the Freo mould. I don't know, but if we was another six or seven centimetres taller, he'd be an alright candidate for a half back flanker.

Do you think that he could develop in to a small defender? that is something we have lacked in the past ever since the loss of Roger. Does he have the pace to go with some of the games small defenders?

I look at our Midfield this way... Sandilands is the monster emergent - giving first use to our canopy of tall midfielders who are hard to bring down and who can either get an arm free and handball out to a passing Hill, Pearce, etc or the ball goes to ground and gets scooped up by the understory consisting of Subes, Neale, Grey... nippy nuggets who can burrow in and extract or get away from the lumbering giants through their lower centre of gravity and agility

we need a mix of players for a balanced midfield

I understand the reasoning I just don't think it holds. Certainly the players you are most likely to see at the bottom of our packs are Barlow, Mundy and Fyfe. I'm not saying that there isn't a place for the short, after all who else is going to harvest free's. Our game plan is about big & agile mids.

The key is the combination and that is why I really rate Hurley for a Rookie spot. He might need a bit to get used to the ball handling but he is a decent size and he gets around well from what little i have seen.

Mine for Rookies: Lester-Smith, Mello, medium defender, Hurley (Cat B).

Yeah agree I'm pretty sure we'll have the oldest list in the league in 2014 so I'd hope we don't go anymore mature agers who will have a limited shelf life.

I am with you, although Cain sounds terrific, just not for us. Get games into Neale, Sheriden and Crozier instead.

I also don't get why we would recruit a ready made mature KPB either. We have Silvagni. Happy to drop a pick on someone with some upside though; Conlon, Templeton, Fort, Spencer, Toohey.

Why are we going at Mellington again? Just pay him out. He has said he doesn't want to be here so surely will be gone at years end and has had a fairly ordinary season anyway.
Hopefully another team wants Mellington. My choice would actually be Cain and two key position players if possible. Is Lester-Smith a lock for one of our selection? it seems weird that he is not training with us yet, unless he has an injury I dont know about.

A few more names to kick around for posible selection
Jedd Clothier Calder Cannons 190cm 84 kg Mid
Campbell Combe 178cm 82 kg Mid
Isaac Conway 184 cm 83 kg Mid Qld u 18s Captain
Joshua Cuneo EF 190 cm 80 kg Defender

Collingwood and Fremantle remain the only two clubs to have interest in VFL gun Chris Cain, but it's believed the Pies will pip the Dockers in the race to snag the midfielder.

He's listed as a small forward, but like Josh Simpson, I see him being very good off of half back and on a wing. Jeez he's got some pace and agility too.

My wish list would be Joel Tippett, Charlie Cameron and Eli Templeton. Although I'm pretty sure we'll get none of those.

If Mellington wanted a rookie spot on our list you would think he would make the effort to show up for a couple of Pre season sessions.Bower is busting his gut to get on the list.
I agree in general but don't you have to be invited. You can't just turn up otherwise any Joe Shmo could.

Agreed. It's not like someone who was recently on the senior list qualifies as "any old Joe Shmo" anyway.
Ahh, so misunderstood, the story of my life.

I wasn't calling Mello anything just pointing out that there is a reason you have to get permission.

More likely I think that he is still in Melbourne coming to terms with not being drafted. Secondly if he is going to train with us he will need to organise his own flights, accommodation etc. Last time we paid for all this but as we did not invite him the cost is all his. Lastly, the rookie draft is this week so why come for three days of training.

I not making excuses but it's hardly a question of "just popping down to training because the boys will let me in".
