True, someone 186cm and only 65 kgs would look literally like a skin covered rake.

Fyfe was drafted at 186cm 73kg

65kg would seem an unhealthy weight to me.

We were really excited to add a variety of positions to fit with our list management needs. To get some talls in Scott Gumbleton, Michael Apeness and Alex Pearce as mobile boys who can play key position was pleasing. To get Colin Sylvia through free agency was a real plus. He's going to really add to our midfield depth. With the boys through the rookie draft, we're pleased to add a couple of mid-range talls, a third tall forward in Michael Wood and then a third tall defender in Tom Vandeleur - they really filled a couple of spots we’ve been looking for. We see Jacob Ballard as having a really good running capacity and a real competitiveness about him so we feel like we can develop him through the midfield and across half-back. We see Brady Grey as a really talented sportsman that's really improved his football over the last 12 months. So we think we've been able to fill a range of needs, particularly the talls and we're really pleased with the period." - general manager of player management Brad Lloyd

The Dockers had a clear strategy for this draft period which was to stock up on talls. They picked up Michael Apeness (201cm) and Alex Pearce (199cm) with their first two picks in the national draft as they seek to find a long-term replacement for Matthew Pavlich. Brady Grey provides something different as a small outside midfielder to compliment the Dockers’ big bodies inside. They also picked two players over 189cm in the rookie draft. Michael Wood is a medium sized forward at 189cm and Thomas Vandeleur is a 193cm key defender. – Alex Malcolm

At first blush I'm more impressed by the Rookie draftees than I am with our other draftees. I'll get back to you in five years to let everyone know what a good judge I am.

I don't blame you, Grey and particularly Pearce have the feel of rookie draftees to me. One a project tall and another a ready made mid.

I see what you mean. I'm just seeing 6 excellent kids coming into the footy club. If half of them measure up we'll be in decent shape.

I don't mean to turn this into a circle-jerking wankfest, but could this club get any awesomer?!?

Has awesome glasses and spectacles. Vid of rookie draft was quite a spectacle, in fact...

I'm with you (Apeness aside). After looking at all their highlights and profiles, I'm more impressed with our rookie draftees than I am with Pearce and Grey.

I think Freo read the draft/trade period quite well. The question being asked will be was Acres the one that we let go, but having a look at the remainder of the picks after 17 we wouldn't have got a tall forward anywhere as talented as Apeness at 37. Apeness was mooted as going anywhere between Sydney (15) and Essendon (26); doubt he would have got past Port (21).

My feel is that Fremantle was hoping one of the following midfielders Dumont (30), Hewett (32), Cutler (33), Robertson (34) might fall through (esp. Hewett/Robertson) to pick 37 but this didn't eventuate and the selection of Alex Pearce was either brought forward or was best available. Look at the picks after 37 and I have no issue with Pearce at 37. Bit upside for each of the national draft recruits especially our last pick Brady Grey who has never done a pre-season and still ran 3.00secs (20m sprint) and about 14.5 Beep. Both could be improved with training and many of the draftee's put a lot of training into these areas in the lead up to the combine. For the Rookie draft Wood looks awesome and Ballard looks like a tackling beast with lightning quick hands.
