Can anyone tell me the date for the Rookie Draft? and any idea of who we will take with our 1st pick?

Also the date for the pre-season draft? I know we are taking Ackland but i think we should take a young kid with our 2nd pick instead of Zantuck. Remember we took Eddie Betts with our 1st pick 2 years ago and he has almost played every game since! Surley if this is a super draft, there will have to be a bit of talent still left over?

The Rookie and Preseason drafts will be held on Tuesday Decmber 12.

There is still quite a bit of talent that can be taken, and yes, I would like us to take a kid with our 2nd PSD selection, if not Joel Perry/Hayden Skipworth.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling we will take one of Ty Zantuck or one of the Clokes with our 2nd PSD pick. Hope I am wrong.

2 names that I am keen on in the rookie draft are Jackson Sheringham and Sam Jacobs. PSD one of them if we want a kid, and rookie list the other.

Also, look out for one or both of Tomi Johnston and Jake Williams in the rookie draft.

Oh, how I wish we took Rhyce Prismall in the ND, and forfeited our 2nd PSD pick. :(

Hopefully we get both Jake Williams and Tomi Johnston in as rookies. The best of the 'leftovers' for mine are Lachlan George, Nick McKenna and Jethro Calma-Holt.

Lachlan George is a 181cm midfielder-come-forward with good disposal and decision making. Coverted from forward to mid this year with outstanding results. Really hard worker who plays inside and out.

Nick McKenna is a swimming convert from Tassie that is awesome at ground level at 191cms and plays similar to James Clement in his ability to take smalls and talls in defence. Has also played at Full Forward but may not be a clean enough overhead mark to play that position, at his height, in the AFL.

Jethro Calma-Holt may be too similar to a lot of players we already took in this draft. Russel Robertson style forward with a massive vertical leap and good goal sense.

Yeah good call. I reckon there's positives in picking both those guys up.

Thanks.

I still feel that we need another developing ruckman, which is why I am hoping we take Jacobs.

You know more about the kids than me-I have only seen Sheringham a few times, and he looks the goods. Can you fill us in a bit more?

Also, would like your opinion on whether you would have preferred passing on pick 83 so we can have a 2nd PSD pixk, or utilising pick 83 on Prismall.

If you speak to people who live in the Ringwood / Croydon area where they live two things would stand out to you.

A/ Cameron and Jason are regulars at the local, drink heavily and are full of themselves.

B/ Their oldman (alias manager - dave allison memories) is full of himself. Parks in the disabled spot at the shops out there and thinks he is it and a bit. I think someone used the words (*****).

Combine a poor off field attitude, a pain in the ****manager / father and question marks over their playing abilities, then the calculated risk is not worth taking.

No thanks.

I don't want them either. That's why I said 'unfortunately'...

Jackson Sheringham is a quick and skillful player but the main concerns on him are his height (177.) Plays back pocket or on a wing. Defensive abilities are less prevelant than his attacking instincts at this point.

Sam Jacobs did alright in a few SANFL games I saw him play, but he's not really got an athletes body at the moment (very soft and untoned.) His positioning looks pretty good in ruck contests. One of the few development rucks left worth taking... not sure we will with Kreuzer and Bellchambers both being in the mix early next year (and close to as good as Leuenberger, despite all the hype over him this year.)

On Prismall, Carlton took Anthony Raso with similar reasoning and it really hasn't bore fruit as Raso was unable to develop at the rate Carlton expected by playing school football. We probably already took a lot of players like Prismall as well. He is very good though and I would've probably taken him.

I would have thought that Leigh Adams would have to be up there for our 1st rookie pick, captained Vic Metro and played very well in the U18 champs although small he has good ball sense and wins it in the right spots, and considering we didn't really take any smaller type players in the nd he would be an ideal rookie selection or even 2nd pre season selection, ala Eddie Betts. Looks and plays like Adrian Gleeson, couldn't go wrong selecting him in either draft.:thumbsu:

I'm hoping for this:

I'm really hoping for either Lachlan George, Nathan Batsanis or Leigh Adams with our first pick.

I really hope we use the number one pick on the best available footballer just not another athlete.

I'd also like to take Tomi Johnson and/or Jake Williams.

I'm a big fan of Tomi's. He may be tiny but he is a true inside mid that knows how to win the hard ball (even against bigger opponents). His skills are also great. Last year his desposal by foot was 90% effective and his disposal by hand was also 90% effective. Hopefully we will give him a go.

Think you will be right there. Batsanis is a big chance to go in the pre season draft... so if he gets to our second pick, or rookie spot id be very very happy!!

Adams would be a great pick up, as would Kelly imo.

We drafted alot of height this year, and we have **********loads of 185+ players running around on a list who should be there for years to come. Batsanis with his speed and presence could be a solid investment. Kelly pure freakish goal sense, football brain and work ethic could help fill a role in the foward line we have. Leigh adams (vic metro skipper) of the hbf in the bullants, as a rookie, would also be handy aswell.

Would love to get two out of the three above, three would be awesome!

Jacobs is too lumbering in the Renouf mould.

Lets hope Batsanis slips through to our PSD pick or #1 rookie pick

He could be an enormous weapon if he pumps it long into the 50 with Kennedy coming in from the side. The depth on the kicks allows someone like Kennedy with a big reach to come in from the side. We do lack players will skills so it would be nice to add someone who can get the pill, is tall enough and would add to the midfield rotation onto the list

But he can play though. There is no certainty that Shaun Hampson will make it, so taking Jacobs would be a bit of "Insurance"! More of your traditional old fashioned ruckman.

My four picks in the Rookie Draft would be Leigh Adams, Dean Kelly (i think Batsanis will be picked up by then), Rob Eddy and Jake Williams.
