the sandy connection has done well for us today, martin and valenti!!! at least we have guaranteed sandy to keep these 2 guns for another 2 years!!!

austin W. is meant to be a an excitement machine...

and the other 2 are tall i think

Watched Aussie play nearly a whole season with Norwood this year and you've got yourselves a good one. For someone so young, who's obviously still got a lot of improvement left in him, he was a revelation to us Redlegs fans.

His most striking attribute is in running players down from behind as his ability to close quickly on players when they least expect it is about the best I've ever seen. Added to that he's got a great eye for goal and is a very level headed young man.

I have nothing but praise for him and wish him every luck with the mighty Demons.

(And no, I'm not his father!)

Name: Trent Zomer
DOB: 9/06/1989
Height: 196.3cm
Weight: 93.9kg
Recruited From: EASTERN RANGES
Position: Tall defender/forward
Bio: Tall who began the year as a key backman before finishing season playing up forward and in the ruck. Leading goalkicker for the 2007 season for the Eastern Ranges. Quick for his size, has an outstanding leap and spoiling ability.

Sounds good to me.

Hi guys,

Jake Spencer is a 205cm ruckman from Townsville, Has come on in leaps and bounds over the last 18 months and will continue to improve.

Is a old style ruckman, very good with his tap work, doesn't get heaps of it around the ground but has a competitive nature and will fight for everything.

Hopefully he does well for you guys.

Cheers

Don't let your expectations get too high, but Aussie has untapped potential, disappointed he's leaving the parade but happy he'll remain in a red and navy jumper. He's as green as grass but has blistering speed, sound skills, strong tackler, roly type but a decent pre season will fix that and knows where the goals are.

I'll try and contain my excitment...haha

But overall im pretty happy with all our drafting, so there is a few new reasons to be genuinly excited over 2008.

Just bounce the ball already!!!

MELBOURNEfc has drafted four Rookies in today’s Rookie Draft.

Selection 3 - Trent Zomer
Height - 197cm
Weight - 95cm
DOB – 9/06/1989
From – Eastern Ranges

A Ttll who began the year as a key backman before finishing season playing up forward and in the ruck. Leading goalkicker for the 2007 season for the Eastern Ranges. Quick for his size, has an outstanding leap and spoiling ability.

Selection 19 – Austin Wonaeamirri
From – St Marys

Wonaeamirri was voted the Northern Territory’s best player at the Championships and gave them great run with his hard-at-it ball winning skills. He has strong pace and good vision. He is noted for doing the 1%ers with his ability to run and chase opponents down, and has a great ability to burst through opponents' tackles.

Selection 35 - Jake Spencer
Height – 203cm
Weight – 93kg
From – Redlands Queensland

Spencer is a tap ruckman who can ruck with either hand, and who often gives his on-ballers first use of the ball in good position. He is a legitimate 203cm, and he uses his height to good advantage. He moves well for a big man, and has a solid endurance tank. He has a ‘hard at it’ attitude, and has a lot of potential for improvement.

Selection 49 – Shane Valenti
DOB – 29.01.1987
From – Sandringham Zebras

A hard at it midfielder/forward, Valenti was a key component of the Sandringham senior squad in 2007. Trained with Melbourne over the pre-season, and becomes the second Sandringham Zebras player to be picked up in today’s drafts.

I'm really excited about all our selections today.
It's good to have the ruck factory back in full swing, allthough they might all struggle to get a game, but Paul Johnson is versatile and may become a key position, if he gets quicker I'd back him to be a chance. But Martin excites me as he is big and moves well which I think is important these days, another thing that is important is genuine size and Spencer becomes our first ruckman above 200cm who isn't Brendan Van Schaik, and looks perfect for a rookie spot.
We know Valenti will be reliable and if there is a long term injury he will be more than ready to step up and take a spot in the team if he continues last years form.
In Aussie we are all hoping we have the next Aaron Davey and even if we don't he should add some spark to the Sandringham side.
Zomer looks to be the kind of player we could do with another 10 of on the rookie list, tall, quick and able to play either end. Again if he does or doesn't make it he could be putting pressure on our other young talls like Garland and McNamara to take the next step in their careers.

So we have 6 ruckman on our list? Some would've been handy when we had to play 426 on Sandilands in the Semi Final at Subi.

hehehe sucker :D

No realy i am happy for you guy's. Trent is a good kid and will be a good player for you guys. He comes from a basketball background and has only being playing TAC cup for the past 12 months. He will be a good option down back or forward for you guy's as he develops over the years.

With Matty Bate and now Zomer at the Dees i think i will have to inherit you as my second favourite club:thumbsu:

And where did we get Davey from? ...THE ROOKIE DRAFT!!! oh its too good to be true.

Nah I dunno hopefully they all just develop and turn into a Russell Robertson or James McDonald, i mean really, its just a lottery.
Please play the tall guy in defence, please! I don't even care if they just run the Zac Dawson experiment and chuck him in there... even off the rookie list.
