Rookie Draft

When is it on?
How many selections do we have?
Who do you think we'll be targeting, especially pick 1?

From my limited knowledge the names that come to mind are...Panos, Patrick, Daw..any others

We've committed to Meeson and Newton. Hopefully one of them gets snapped up so that we can snare Panos. Unlikely though.

Man I wish we didn't commit to goose. I'd rather take a punt on Panos or Grimes and see what they can offer....it has to be more than Newton, surely.

Seems as though we have 7 spots?? And Zomer is now gone, perhaps we will have one live pick in the rookie draft for someone like a Liam Patrick or Panos??

Anyone who can clarify? Might ease a bit of the tension caused by us not considering we need KPF reinfrocements.

If we do have a rookie pick (live), would appear that we will get second best remaining youngster as Tigers only ones with a PSD pick who have not committed to an expirienced player (Syd=Bradshaw, Freo=McPhee, Melb=Macdonald)

I didn't even know that we cut The Zomer until now. So now we do have one 'live' pick in the rookie draft.

Has to be Panos/Temel/Patrick/Thorp/Grimes.

Mr Consistent - that list is before Bruce moved on to the veterans list. Giving us 40 on the main list and only 6 rookies.

We have no live picks on the rookie list unless someone else pounces on Meesen or Newton.

I don't believe we can not select Meesen or Newton - they have contracts and have done nothing to deserve them being broken. We will get sued and the AFL will be very angry and its not good to make Vlad angry.

I'm pretty sure that the Gold Coast have the first 5 rookie picks anyway, but if we wanted to pay out Meesen or Newton they couldn't sue us surely?

I would like to see us pay them both out or at the very least pay out one of them & use the free rookie spot to pick up one of Panos, Daw or Thorp.

We need a KPF. Meeson & Newton have had their chance, bring in fresh blood & see what they can do.

Fair call Master - I am no expert on all of this, but feel its a real shame we dont have the opportunity to rookie some real youth that are 'speculative' (Liam Patrick is a prime example).

Having said that our whole list is youthful, and a gamble for the next few years, so perhaps they think they already have enough 'project' players on board.

Just one 'live' pick would have been nice to take advantage of our early position in this section of the draft and to take a real chance on a potential freak with little cost and the knowledge that they could not turn out and we could live with the fact 'we had a go'.

How many rookie spots can you have. I am sure that teams have more than 6. I really hope we take Temel or Panos. Panos as a rookie would be perfect and with McDonald coming in the Pre season draft the following list would be bloody awesome.

Pay out Meeson and Newton. It will actually help us if we do and select a couple more rookies. Will get us closer to TPP.

Meesen and Newton will be rookied, there is such a thing as loyalty left at our club. We've promised them as much. That said, if another club steps in, I don't think we'll be disappointed.

Inside word at the Draft Evening last night seems to suggest that Dylan Grimes may be our pick.

You name Spencer twice. Given Meesen isn't on the list I assume one of the Spencers should read Meesen.

It's a business. I think that it would be no different if you pay someones contract out ie. Mitch Thorpe. If Meesen's foot is shagged then i Have no problem in the ethics of paying him his money and bidding him good day. If it comes good in 12 months then re-apply for the ND and go again.

The point I was trying to make is, Your word is your honour.... I can't remember if I read that the club actually promised this to them or I read it here or somewhere else?????

My understanding is that if no one else picks them then we can but then we have to rookie list them or pay them out. Not sure if this would be included in our TPP, but you would assume so as it counts when you are paying part of the players contract when they are at another club.

FWIW I doubt the club will pay them out, and just re-rookie them. Juice may get a game if Watts and miller go down.
