Rookie Draft

Wilson wasn't deemed good enough to be in the best 80 or so players in the country - i wouldn't take it as a lock that he'd be considered in the next best 10.

If he was that much of a lock - he would have gone in the ND

Houlihan was delisted. Makes little sense for him to go back onto the main list.

I don`t think GWS where involved in the main draft which is where I suspect he will be in the mix of 8 players who they can choose before our 1st rookie pick.

I would prefer to pick houli off the rookie list too but the signs lead me to believe he will be the main pick ,GWS will certainly pick wilson they have the 1st:eek: 8 picks on rookie draft
What are the signs that lead you to believe that Houlihan will be taken in the PSD instead of the rookie draft? There are probably more reports suggesting we will take Wilson rather than Houlihan in the PSD. I agree with your second point - GWS would probably take Wilson with one of their first eight picks. I assume that WC would be aware of this and know that if they want Wilson he has to be picked in the PSD. Being the only player outside the club training, they must be very keen on him. Worsfold's public statements about re-picking Houlihan were positive but not definite. I hope we pick Wilson in the PSD and Houlihan in the rookie draft.

A random point that doesnt deserve its own thread

On draft day the Eagles were VERY interested in Bachar Houli. He was taken the pick before ours and the club were pretty upset about it. Hes now running about on the open market, free and looking for a new home. Why havnt we spoken to him or atleast tried to entice him over. Looks a solid player with good foot skills. Fills a need for us as a small defender and would free Butler back into the midfield. 2 year deal would be ideal.

IMO the club lack the balls to make a move in fear of annoying Richmond. Who cares, man up and get in there

The signs may be nothing just media reports . I too presumed we will pick wilson but now I`m not so sure that the reports coming in are false .

I thought when we delisted him it was to downgrade houli from main list to the rookie list as he was still contracted for another year .
.

I would take the risk of taking houli in the rookie draft not sure if the club would tho.

If GWS pick up Houlihan in the rookie draft does that mean they take up his contract or do they just pay the rookie salary and we pay the rest?

i think its option b , we pay the rest .so if I was GWS i would pick him up, he`s low risk high reward and accustomed to the AFL training schedule.

He struggled to get a game at a club that was almost as deplorable as us last year. And Butler's days as a midfielder are long over.

I'd be more concerned about the club not trying to pinch Anthony off Freo, although the drafting of Darling negates the need for him somewhat.

So did David Myers but everyone was busting a testicle to get him over to the Eagles a few months ago. Unlike Myers he had sensational VFL form and geniunely good ball use. Something we need of a HBF.

Id take Houli ahead of Anthony every day of the week personally

Rohan Bewick

Any chance of us drafting him tomorrow? he is a hard working midfielder and also he kicks goals which none of our midfield do enough. Nephew of Darren Bewick so no doubt Essendon will be interested.

I'm pretty sure Houli doesn't want to come to here.

Again, why would he leave for WA when he has the exact same job in Victoria, where he's lived his whole life?

Plus he's had back issues, plus he's nothing amazing.

On topic, I'm probably in the minority but I would like to take Houlihan in the PSD. It would be even better if we could get him onto the rookie list but I wouldn't risk it.

It doesn't strike me as good policy to delist one guy because he can't kick but give the other 20 guys who can't kick time to develop. It would be a different story if Houlihan had played 100 games and didn't look like getting better but that's not the case. Give him a complete chance before we judge him.

Heard a few of the Bombers supporters sum up his kicking skills as not that good so i'd be more inclined to believe them as they would watch him a lot more closely. If he doesn't have good skills then it's not what we need.

Myers on the other hand does have good skills, just has has problems with injuries so far.

Houli is totally commited to playing for Richmond and i dont think he wanted to leave Victoria.

It might make sense if this is what happened:

we delisted Houlihan and told him we want to keep him on the list, but it will depend on who we pick up in the draft.

at the draft we manage to snag a couple of talls in Darling and Lycett, so decide we'd rather keep Houlihan and axe Hansen.

We might have done it this way round to give Houlihan the option of entering the draft where he might have a decent chance of getting picked up, unlike Hansen.

Also we might have been surprised to get Darling, so thought it more likely we'd keep Hansen.

All pure speculation of course.
