West Coast are considering taking de-listed Carlton pair Steven Browne and Josh Donaldson in the rookie draft on December 7.
Browne, 21, played 23 matches across three seasons at the Blues after being taken with pick No.36 in the 2007 national draft.
A move to West Coast would reunite him with new assistant coach David Teague, who served as the coach of Carlton's VFL affiliate for the past three seasons.
Donaldson, 19, was recently axed after just one season on Carlton's rookie list, but at 195cm represents an athletic key-position prospect for an Eagles side keen on adding to its tall forward stocks.
A return to WA would represent a homecoming for both West Perth products.

browne is not too bad, nothing special but a good bit part player.

im not against that.

no idea about donaldson.

The great thing about rookie selections is they are without value. You can take a punt on anyone and admit you where wrong less than 12 months later.

It's an obvious low risk and high reward selection.

Hopefully the club puts some effort into the process as the rookie selections represent some 50% of our list turnover and seeing we came dead last and are using a massive three picks in the ND they will be important to help balance the structure of the squad and get new blood into the team.

I am hoping for a tall forward /ruck, key defender and then the low risk high reward inspired selection.

Pass on Browne - he is an honest trier, but not much more - we need to add class first and foremost.

Donaldson is an athletic utility type, but doesn't appear to have any clear cut role he could effectively play at AFL.

O'Keeffe is the only guy worth considering out of Carlton's delistees - lacks a bit of zip, but is a hard running, classy disposer that has struggled with injuries in his first 2 years at Carlton.

Browne...yuck.

Donaldson was 193cm when drafted as an athletic ruckman, now at 195cm, but still short for a ruckman.

A replacement for Hansen as our flagship ranga?

Sounds likes another project type like Notte, oh oh...

Saw him play against us at Leederville oval at the start of the season.

I thought he showed a bit and was surprised Carlton delisted him. I actually went to the Carlton board to find out who he was - because he took some good grabs. He is scrawny though

He is scrawny though

WC and Freo have shown that by selecting top WAFL players, that the rookie pick risk is minimized and there are likely to be decent-good AFL players. Broughton, Strijk and Hams, among others, have recently shown this. Why would WC want to move away from this formula. If WC don't take advantage of this, others will, to WC's detriment.

I believe smalls are best taken as rookie picks, they're dime-a-dozen. I hate the idea of selecting young talls from this deep in the draft. Talented young talls go early in the ND. Mature age talls are acceptable though, because you know what you're getting.

I'm not against WC taking Polec/Gaff at pick 4, but then taking two talls at 26 and 29; thus leaving preferably the smalls to the PSD and rookie picks. two or three more smalls the quality of Strijk and Hams would be a great result.

Shame Ugle was taken by Collingwood.

Hopefully we can pick up any four of these guys..Houlihan, Eades, Cooyou, Yarran, I.Stevens

Andreoli vs Houlihan would be intriguing...
I'd take Andreoli and bank on the other teams passing on Houlihan and take him with a later RD pick.
Definitely want a small/medium forward, one of Cooyou, Eades or Stevens.
Wouldn't mind Wilson either.

Just posted in another thread a list of names still available for the PSD/RD:
Andreoli, Chalwell, Menegola, Wilson, Blight, Cooyou, Yarran, Eades, Brookes, I Stevens, Sweet just off the top of my head.

We HAVE to delist Hansen to open up a spot in the PSD, especially now that we have Darling.

With Wilson and Darling on our list i hope it happens.

Plenty of football ability on that list and most will still be kicking around in the rookie draft.

Yes, Hansen just has to go, totally unprofessional to keep him going. Get in a lateral thinker if salary cap is the problem.

A lot of good options there :)

If we delisted both Jones and Hansen, it'd be too late to upgrade Hams right?

Hopefully we delist at least one, take Eades, Chalwell, Andreoli and Blayne Wilson.

The U18 state players I most liked that missed out: Batley, Monaco, Barden, Walker, Schneider, Wilson, Gray.

I haven't watched much of the state league, but hopefully we add some more quality state league players like we did last year with Hams and Strijk...
