Rookie Draft

Delisted players I would punt on for rookie list.

Garry Moss (Haw)
Tim Ruffles (Freo)
Ben Bucovaz (Freo) *delist Lynch for this guy*

Probably take two of these guys and the rest of our picks will be new players.

I like Tim Ruffles. anyone know why he was delisted by freo?

Freo owe that kid alot. Played him wayyyyy to early. Torn his ACL by being mauled in a tackle - basically body slammed. Thats what happens when you play kids that at 60kgs.

Don't seem to be learning from their mistakes....

MARK Harvey is refusing to be bound by conventional opinion that says Fremantle's raw top draft pick Jayden Pitt isn't capable of playing AFL football next season

Can't do anything right can they?

did he tear it just last season?

Anyone know if we have in any intrest in Joel O'Driscoll?

North Melbourne and St. Kilda showed interest in him at the start of the year. I spoke to him about 3 weeks before the draft and he didn't think he would get picked up. In saying that he is a chance for a rookie spot but I am unsure if WC have shown any interest at this stage.

Don't blame Freo. No one is holding a gun to his head and telling him he has to play. It's the accepted risk of being a pro athlete.

Going back to his first ACL injury.

It was the most innocuous incident I've ever seen. Tore his ACL running into the centre square with no physical pressure applied. I always questioned that they put him back in after he hurt the same knee earlier in the match. Not a doctor, but it was fairly obvious there was damage caused by the first incident before popping his ACL. Exhilirating viewing considering he kicked a crucial goal in between injuring himself.

His second ACL came late in the season in Tassie so he probably won't be fully ready until 2012.

Shame because he's got some talent and is a nice kick of the footy. I feel if Schofield got picked up then O'Driscoll is a decent chance as well.

Wouldn't that be unfair to Lynch

Wouldn't that mean we should have tried to trade him before the draft so he could be picked up by another club

It would be, great to see that I am teaching you something and you are connecting.

But going by how things are run at WCE it seems ok because he can always be picked up in the PSD or rookie draft as you have stated else where.

Difference is that Lynch was out of contract at the end of this year, but the club saw some value in him as a backup ruckman should Cox or Naitanui get injured so offered him a one year contract.

Hansen did not have the same value so despite being contracted for 2011 was delisted after the draft for reasons previously explained to you.

'Cos a 17 year old saying no to a senior game goes over real well right. F-me, there are some bl00dy pearlers out there. There is a thing called development. Will Schofield as a 17 y.o. = no chance of success at AFL, Schoey as a 21 y.o. looks a lot more of a player.

When coaches push forward underdeveloped kids and they get injured in the physical game, guess what, it's the coach's fault for being so f'ing short-sighted. You see this happen too often, where players with kids bodies fail in a man's game.

Rule No 1 always blame Freo

These guys would do me just fine, All are available and all fill a requirement at WCE.
I would take in this order if available.
1) J.Monaco- PSD- Replacement Spangher, Wilkes
2) B.Wilson- RD- Replace Bones, Nicoski next year
3) A.Hamp- RD- Replace Notte as developing forward.
4) S.Menagola-/I.Stevens RD- Xfactor

Sam Menagola
Height: 188cm
Weight: 79kg
DOB: 07/03/92
Club: East Fremantle (WA)
Draft range: 50-rookie
Tall forward who tested exceptionally at the WA state combine, recording 15.6 in the beep test, only 0.1 off the record. He marks well and must be a chance for a home-state call-up.

Justin Monaco
Height: 192cm
Weight: 86kg
DOB: 07/11/92
Club: East Fremantle (WA)
Draft range: 40-60
Powerful defender who works hard to spoil his opponent and rebound. Played good footy with East Freo reserves and almost cracked a senior game. (Should be in our Sights with our first rookie pick/PSD pick)

Blayne Wilson
Height: 188cm
Weight: 88kg
DOB: 26/01/92
Club: Peel Thunder (WA)
Draft range: 50-rookie
Half-back who takes marks in between shutting down his opponent. All Australian after the 2009 under-18 championships.

Isiah Stevens
Height: 183cm
Weight: 75kg
DOB: 09/09/92
Club: Swan Districts (WA)
Draft range: 60-rookie
Freakish forward whose highlight reel is breathtaking. Enormous talent. It's just a matter of whether it can be harnessed.

Anton Hamp
Height: 191cm
Weight: 80kg
DOB: 21/07/92
Club: Claremont (WA)
Draft range: 50-rookie
Key forward who leads up and back and impressed without being tried at senior level because of Claremont's selection policy of leaving teenagers in the thirds. Finished in the top 10 in the repeat sprints event at the draft combine.

I actually like those picks EA.

Would add:

Warwick Andreolli - damaging left footed winger who takes the game on.

Tyler Chalwell - Key back with great mobility and a good kick.

Hayden Yarran - west perth marking foward left footer in the lecras mould, if his knee is okay would be worth a shot.

Justin Monaco will never be a great key position player more a large flanker.

Anton Hamp - I would probaly stay away from, his build looks like he may have trouble gaining the size he needs to play afl.

My ideal draft would be in no particular order:

Andreolli
Menagola
Stevens
Wilson

Not sure if this has been posted, but here is a video interview with Blayne Wilson, who is more than likely to be taken in the PSD rather than the rookie draft.

http://www.***************.com.au/articles/2010/11/20/late-afl-hope-for-blayne-wilson/

I think with Darling and Wilson we really have a couple of bargains who have had some excuses to why they didn't perform to expectation this year.

That's what excites me the most about both of them, they have genuine reasons for under performing last year. The bad things is Darling was AA CHF and Wilson was AA FB.. so they may be undersized for there (seemingly) natural position.

Being involved with EF I think Chalwell and Menegola have a lot to offer our local clubs Snoop Dog had this to say about Chalwell re the Rookie draft
Chalwell - My favourite player probably in the draft. Is a terrific athlete, tough, got footy ability in spades and is pretty adaptable (played everywhere from Ruck to CHB/ CHF / FF / Wing this year). State coach admits should have played champs and ended up being BOG in Colts final and making COlts team of the year). We have spoken to him so Snoop holds out much hope but I have been disppointed before and will surely be again. FIngers crossed but I think some blokes at GWS might be onto him!

Anybody (swannies, Underdog?) know what Notte has been up to? Training at all?

Been trying to find out paran, but I haven't got to training yet, been working just about around the clock!

However, I've done a quick search of mycricket and he doesn't have any stats for this year. I expected him to go and play cricket, but that doesn't look like it's happening.....
