Rookie Draft

Any chance Wilson will then last to one of our rookie picks?
Would have to think GWS would seriously look at Wilson with one of their first eight rookie picks (is that right?), if we don't take him in the PSD. If GWS didn't take Wilson with one of the first eight rookie picks, they obviously don't rate him. Herald Sun writer says we are committed to taking Houlihan with our PSD pick - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...-in-rookie-draft/story-e6frf9jf-1225964150319

Haven't seen this elsewhere. I wonder whether it's correct or just lazy journalism? Would be sort of disappointed if this was true, we know what Houlihan has to offer, don't mind him as a rookie, but am interested in a new player on the list, probably Wilson, although Milera might be okay.

I have heard from a few different sources that West Coast have committed to take Houlihan with its first pick in the rookie draft.
First pick in the rookie draft is a significantly different matter than the PSD pick, I wouldn't mind Houlihan being picked in the rookie draft. Looking at the last two years, the club has gone with a draft age local player who was overlooked in the ND (McGinnity, Neates) and who they obviously rate. Wilson fits this profile, and they are obviously interested and checking him out by inviting him to train. Would think if he looks okay at training he must be a strong chance for the PSD.

I think we will pick Wilson in the PSD and Houlihan in the ND.

We will probably inform Houlihan of our intention to elevate him onto the senior list for the 2012 season along side Ashton Hams. Expect a fair few players to be moved on next season and us to pick up 3-4 picks (depends on where we finish) in the National Draft at the end of 2011.

I agree.
I think eagles still rate houlihan quite highly,
But missing a whole year they probably feel that realistically he won't be ready for afl until mid 2011 anyway.
So to gain an extra spot, delisted him and will re-rookie him.
It's a long winded way if doing it but it's a calculated risk.

By law of averages,
By the time houlihan is ready, we'll already have a player to put on the long term injury list (my bet is Kerry!) and we can upgrade him if he is good to go.

I think he showed quite alot for a guy who has only played a handful,
Especially when his crash and bash style typically takes any similar player some time to find consistency.

The only reason that I can see West Coast moving Houlihan from the rookie draft to the PSD is that maybe GWS have suddenly started sniffing around.
Other than that all Ive been hearing is Houlihan 1st pick rookie draft and Wilson PSD.

He could slide, a la Darling! ;) (one can dream) although there may be better midfield prospects from the Vic or SA teams pop up at the champs.

We need to start spreading rumours about his dedication and all round personality to help such a slide.

I hear he steals from old ladies handbags

I wouldn't mind Myles Sewell i feel he could impact like Barlow did. The other prospect is Mitch Thorp pick 6 a few years back effed up had injury concerns but seems to have turned it all around might have burnt too many bridges to get a selection but he can play and wouldn't be a bad thing to have him pushing for a forward spot. He was rated better then Jack Riewoldt.

Maybe thats what were weighing up - is GWS or GC interested in Wilson / Milera - if we want both which should we take first

remember Wilson had OP and might not be right for some time and we desperately need a small Forward.

I've read in a couple of places that GWS are pretty interested in Milera, given Choco Williams' link to him and Sheedy's love of speedy small forwards.

I doubt we'll be able to get both Milera and Chillblayne to be honest. We'll have to pick between them.

psd + rookie draft tuesday 10 am EST so 7 am here .

we have pick 2 -psd

and in the rookie draft picks 10 - 27 - 44

I expect we will take Houlihan in the psd ,the rookie draft is wide open not expecting wilson to be there at pick 10 so it could possibly be 3 of this lot Blight, Chalwell ,Monaco ,H Yarren or Coolyou .

I really like the look of Wilson so I would take him in the PSD and Houlihan on the rookie list as another club won't steal him, whereas GWS could take Wilson with their first 8.

Houlihan isn't going to be in our best 22 come rd 1 so if his form in the WAFL is good enough to warrant the half yearly extra upgrade spot then he can take that, chances are there will be a long term injury at some point anyway.

We will be offloading some more dead wood next season so if he warrants an upgrade back to the senior list there will be a spot for him.

I would prefer to pick houli off the rookie list too but the signs lead me to believe he will be the main pick ,GWS will certainly pick wilson they have the 1st:eek: 8 picks on rookie draft

Wilson wasn't deemed good enough to be in the best 80 or so players in the country - i wouldn't take it as a lock that he'd be considered in the next best 10.

If he was that much of a lock - he would have gone in the ND
