Not sure who it was, think it may have been Chris Scott, but he said the club would be looking closely at drafting more mature aged players (this was after trade week). If we have four selections then i would assume that we would be re-rookieing one or two of Ruffles, Bucovaz and O'Brien.
The depth of the national draft was evident this year with only a couple of mature aged players being drafted, depsite the heavy interest in them early on in the season. This means that all of the top mature aged prospects remain. I would say that the recruiters would be looking to add another one or two mature aged midfielders. I would expect them as well to follow the trend of recruiting from the VFL. This would mean Curnow, Sewell and to a lesser degree, Clifton and Valenti would all be in contention. Also VFL full forward Matt Little who is "apparently" on our radar would be in contention.

Wonder what's happening with Kyle Hartigan
Grover has taken Hase's veteran spot, so effectively the situation is unchanged, i.e., spots available for 4 rooks.
I reckon Ruffles is a shoe in for a Rookie Spot so we will have 3 picks in the RD.
I hope not Scham, especially with Ruffles Bucovaz still in the mix
Add Ben Brown to that - really like him as a Forward / Ruck prospect. Has anyone actually confirmed Menegola's height? I thought he was 188cm which meant really you are looking more at a midfielder / flank type.
I think it is almost certain that Ruffles will be one rookie. Would really like to be able to walk away with two of Brown, Chalwell, Hamp and maybe Monaco, with either Andreoli, Jarrad Blight, Menegola or Butcher as the last.

He was never going to be a real shot for the national draft this year, but if he gets passed over in the rookie draft again there must be some serious issues with him as a person. Because football wise, there is no reason why he shouldn't be on an AFL list.
Also, there are much better mature aged prospects than Sewell. Sure he dominates at VFL level, but he is getting overlooked for a reason. I'd much prefer Hibberd or Roberts (who fits the exact same profile as our new draftees - fast and skilled). Doubt we'd look at Little, not after drafting 3 (sort of) similar players last night.
I think Ruffles is guaranteed a spot, and think O'Brien is a very good chance too. Although I'd love to just go fresh what with Roberts, Andreoli, Mullett and Milera all available as smalls. Otherwise, I agree with most in that a couple of talls would be nice. I'd be happy with any of Brown, Hamp, Monaco, Savage and Kruse.

jarrad blight was re-drafted by the pies, so he is off our radar. i think hamp and midfielders would be the order of the day

Bucovaz is getting some serious size about him and has turned up for pre season looking really fit and focused, looks like he is going to give a rookie listing a real shot

Really happy to hear that about BBucovaz, I have this feeling he is going to be a really good player for us. I asked Bond about him a while back and he really rated him, said he always knew where to run and a very good kick etc etc.........frothn!!
Really wish we had cut Hinkley and Schammer (I don't know/care if they had contracts ... pay them out) and left some of these guys on our list IF we were planning to rookie them.

I reckoned he had some size to him last year so look forward to seeing him around this year.
If he gets over his injuries then he will be knocking on the door big time for what will now be an upgrade back onto the main list.

Glad to hear that about BBBB! Awesome...love the way he attacked the ball & man for the Sharks in some games. 7 goals in 1 game don't forget! I'd be taking him with our 1st pick in the rookie...Ruffles 2nd....forget Brock & then grab Hamp & Menegola
