Is has come to many peoples attention that the downgrade options for this week are pretty dismal if you need to free up some cash fast.

But what's even more concerning is what we will be left with after round 8. The mids look ok with deBoer and Cockie coming in but after next week the cash cow season will be drawing to an end.

Just thought I'd ask peoples opinion on the situation....
This is my first year of DT and have found the sudden drop in rookie selection concerning (it's getting harder to pick a winner). I know you only really need 2 downgrades per position but even that looks thin.

Does this happen every year so early? If not are Macaffer and greenwood worth getting on now or should we wait out this dry spell. The other rookies will string together a few later in the year surely.

Rookies to come

Swift
Davenport
Anthony

Now im wishing even more I got warren last week.

Hopefully k-rudd will announce a $100,000 stimulus package for all the struggling DT's.

It's completely normal. If anything, there's more been prospects than usual (it's just that most have scored well in their 3rd game which is unordinary)

I don't claim to know how all these players are fairing, but some are definitely doing well, some had good preseasons, and other were touted as very good "AFL ready" draft prospects

Backs
Grimes
Grima
McKernan
Kite

Mids
Sidebottom
Anthony
Adams
Davenport
DeBoer
Swift
Cockie
Strauss

Forwards
Watts (maybe)
Ballantyne
Lynch
Hogan
C.Garlett
Lobbe (RUC)
Grant
Walters (MID)
Dick

Rucks
Naitanui
Currie
Clarke

I honestly expect most of these guys will play. Perhaps 1/3 of them will be good cash cows, and an equal number will come from outside this list, especially when 16 rookies are elevated at R11.

The next major downgrade target. Steele Sidebottom. Last I heard he was averaging 28 touches and 4 tackles a game in the VFL. Should be in this week with Beams out.

Hurley has played a game also.

Don't worry, there'll be lots more rookies to debut yet. Some real quality ones like Swift (could debut this week), Mitch Banner, James Strauss, Naitanui, Sidebottom, Ballantyne and Rory Sloane in particular.

not sure if Banner would get a game. Pettigrew has needed to be dropped for 3 weeks now and Surjan is a small defender that has no defense yet they keep getting picked.

There's also Ash Smith from the Eagles. I think he's listed as a defender.
Yep that's right, hopefully he gets a game soon as he's been in my side since round 1 ;) .Swift looks pretty close to selection though, you'd expect him to play in the next fortnight.

Ballantyne was just running laps at training, certainly looks like he's physically up to the AFL level, but he's probably still a month away.

I guess that shows how little you watch the importance of Surjan & Pettigrew to our team structure then.

I'm not sure who of the Port youngsters would be up for a run to be honest.

Ashley Smith is miles away currently.

All this talk of old Sidebum in the mids.
I was under the impression he was eligible for forward consideration.
if so why in gods name would you get him in the middle.
Plenty of good mids to come.

My downgrade targets up forward have and are ballantyne and Sidebottom.

Mids - 2 of Anthony, Cockie, Deboer, Swift

Backs - ??? hahaha

Broughton is still a pick up, only played the one game so far.
I've also heard that Clancee Pearce might be in with a shout towards the end of the season, Freo supporters could possibly confirm or deny this??
But there really is nothing in the backs, which is shite!!

Clancee has been very solid for Swannies in the WAFL (Last 4 games in my sig :thumbsu:)

Palmer going on the LTI injury list means we can elevate a rookie whenever we want to debut one. The thinking of most Freo supporters is bring in Pearce across HB and release Roger Hayden in a midfield role.

Clancee is definitely ahead of all the other rookies atm, at worse he will get the mid-season elevation.

Fixed the errors guys.

Also what's all this talk about teams elevating rookies soon. They still need to make it into the best 22 to have a chance of making some cash so why do we care?

The forwards are looking so thin from now on. Sidebottom isn't much of a downgrade from walker :(

Downgrading Walker/Brown and the like to Sidey will only get you 50-80k. Downgrading Rich/Otten/Beams/Hartlett could get you up to 150k. Big difference.

Clearly thats a flawed point.

Example.
200k Forward
250k Midfielder

Option 1
Forward to Sidebum - Net $90k
Midfiedler to Anthony/Davenport/Cockie/Swift - Net $164-175k
Total Money Gained = $254 to 265k

Option 2:
Forward to 86ker - Net $114k
Midfielder to Sidebum - Net $140k
Total Money Gained = $254k

This clearly shows if you intend on getting Sidebum in (which he looks the goods) then clearly there are more alternatives in the midfield. The overall money gained is the same and leaves your team with more options. if you get him in the Midfield then your stuck with nothing.

Who is to say you will be trading both players? If you need cash straight away to do an upgrade, getting him in the mids will give you more cash that week.
