Rookie Elevation

No one.

No spot for any of them, no point wasting the salary cap money.

Magin is the most likely to make an impact but he's behind a lot.
Lovett, Winderlich, Welsh, Hocking, Hislop, Monfries, Myers at the very least.

Atkinson is only allowed this year on the Rookie list because of his age I'm fairly sure.

If that is the case then it would be much more logical to give him the spot (probably wouldn't get a game anyway though)

I've got a feeling Atkinson's already a big chance of being promoted to the senior list at the end of the season whether he gets much opportunity this year or not. Can't see him pushing into the side unless we've got a heap of injuries at this stage though.

Magin would be more likely to get a game early on in my opinion. It's pretty widely expected that our team won't be able to maintain this style of play in the second half of the season as we'll burn out well before the finals.
I think this will be something the coaches will be trying to avoid and we'll see the majority of our midfielders rotated around the ground and also out of the 22 just to keep everyone fit and keen. I'd be surprised if most aren't rested for a few weeks throughout the season.
Magin can slip into that midfield rotation. I'd rate him as a chance to play 1 or 2 games at least while Lucas is out, maybe even more if he shows he can match the other mids in the mix.

At this stage I don't think they'll elevate anyone. None of the 4 are in our best 26 or 27.

Of the 4 I would most like to see Magin.

I liked the look of both Magin and Atkinson.
Atkinson showed a bit down back, didn't have many goals kicked on him and he set up numerous forward thrusts from our backline.
In a way he was our replacement McPhee.

Magin was fantastic but we have a lot of his type in our squad already, he'll be a regular in our team in a couple of years though no doubt.

With Lucas out for 10-12 weeks, it's not as though we have no other forward options. Gumbleton, Neagle, Daniher, CJ just to name a few. I realise that a couple of those youngsters are injured but when they're fit they'll all be pushing for selection.

So we elevate nobody for the time being.

My prediction...

Unless we get a couple of injuries to similar type players that will stretch our depth (defenders or mids) no-one will be elevated until something like round 6-8 which will allow us to keep the flexibility in case a certain type of player is needed at some stage.
At this point (rd 6-8) Magin will be elevated and play the following week to help out with the refreshing of our hard-working mids and enable them to continue with the same intensity throughout the season. He could possibly play 2-3 games before Lucas comes back depending on his form.

Now that Gumby is out for the year :( I'd like to see Chartres get elevated if we were to elevate a rookie.

From what I've seen of him this year, he has been pretty good in both the ruck and playing key back. Would be a reward for his efforts thus far.

Seems a logical choice with two KPP out for the season.

I would agree, I am not too sure he is AFL quality but it's worth a look, we have nothing to lose right? Would be nice to find another tall defender, with Mal on the outer, Fletch getting older and Pears still young we are starting to look a little thin in that area.

Exactly. Might be a surprise package.

Chartres or Magin for me. Chartres looked very poor in the pre season whilst Magin was quite promising. Our season has been pathetic and we may as well see which kids can play. Before the end of the season Id like to see Hocking, Dempsey, and Magin/Chartres play a few games. Hope that Atkinson plays another couple of games before the end of the season. Dare I say Johns get a crack again.

Have you seen Chartres play for Bendigo this year?

Atkinson upgraded off rookie list

Essendon's fastest player over 20m, Jarrod Atkinson, has been upgraded from the rookie list, to replace another speester, Alwyn Davey, who was placed on the long-term injury list after Round 8.

Atkinson, 23, played his second AFL game for the club in Friday's win against the Eagles after being taken as a mature age recruit with the club's final pick in the 2007 rookie draft.

His promotion and Dustin and Ken's Fletcher's record equalling 552nd match by a father and son combination head this week's AFL news.

Excellent. Hopefully he becomes a regular in the 22. Struggled on Friday Night but it was only his 2nd game. Needs another 15-20games before we can judge him.

Ive only seen him play once for Bendigo this year. Obviously saw him numerous times in the pre season and he looked poor.

I don't think he has been poor, judging him on pre season form is pretty poor by you. Considering the last few weeks (And at times last year as well) he has been played out of position (Ruck), he has performed well against the odds. Gives his all.

Seems to use the ball pretty well and has good defensive skills. Maybe he'll be just a good VFL player. He deserves his chance at AFL level he get's elevated.

Time will tell if he is just a good VFL player.

Im not judging him on pre season form at all. I know he has been played out of position occasionally, but I am merely stating that I would prefer Magin to get a crack for Essendon before Chartres. If Chartres was to get his chance first Id give him my full support. Ive got nothing against Chartres.

I haven't seen a great deal of Chartres, but I have seen him in the pre-season and once playing for Bendigo this year. He looked really awkward and out of place... Could have been Kepler Bradley! Haven't seen anything to suggest he'll make it at AFL level, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

Does anybody know where Dempsey is at with his injury?

Other than injecting Dempsey, Houli and Winder I would like to see us settle the side a little bit and really get a look at what we have got. It's hard to judge guys that keep coming in and out, admittedly injuries play a part in the continualed rotation but I would love to see the magical words one Thursday night "NO CHANGE"
