According to a few Carlton Bigfooty posters, we can upgrade 2 rookie's.

Here are the Rookies. Bray Blake, Jarrod Cachia, Mitchell Carter, Levi Casboult, Edward Curnow, Joseph Dare, Rhys O Keefe, Zac Touhy, Wayde Twomey.

My guess (haven't really seen these guys in action, so this is just from what i've seen/reports from various other posters) is that it'll be between Zac Touhy, Levi Casbout, Rhys O Keefe & Edward Curnow as to who is selected.

Any guesses?

Curnow is a certainty, should we choose to elevate any. Now that Ellard is out of the Richmond game, it would not surprise to see Curnow line up in Navy Blue come round 1.

The 2nd nominated rookie is anyone's guess. I don't think we'll actually nominate one unless our hand is forced at the selection table. Bray is ineligible for nomination, and I don't think Casboult, Tuohy, ROK, Carter, Dare or Cachia are ready to have an impact at senior level. If we do nominate a 2nd rookie, I think we'll go with Twomey.

Well I'd assume Curnow is a lock.

Not sure on the others, a lot of them seem perhaps still a little too raw/light for AFL at this stage. Maybe out of O'Keefe, Cachia or Twomey. Perhaps even Touhy but I was under the impression he still needed another year, I wouldn't really know though.

Definitely Ed Curnow. With Ellard and probably Mclean unavailable, it's an easy decision. Good to get AFL level games into him early on. Playing him in the VFL won't achieve much - we already know he can dominate at that level. You could argue that Richmond are the equivalent of a VFL side anyway.

:)

It will be Curnow and Twomey.

EDIT: Sorry I should explain in greater detail. Curnow is a certainty, and id be suprised if he isnt in the team Rd 1. Club will probably wait on the other nomination until it is needed, but Twomey is in the calculations for a Rd 1 spot believe it or not.

Will think that this is the case.

Interesting. Can you shed some light on where Twomey will play/what his role will be for possibly round 1/2011.

Any interesting classified information to share, that is largely unknown (am guessing the answer will be "confidential", but worth a shot

Thanks BiB

Were this a thread about faves... As an avid ABC1 Bullants watcher, my choices would be (a) Casbah and (b) Dare. Levi because he's a hulking lad and instant cult favourite. With Thornton, Austin and Setanta at the crossroads, he's next in line after MW. Plus, we lost Sammy and Kreuze won't be back 'til May. Joe because he has innate defensive instincts and has a go. Endurance and conditioning will follow. Neither of these will happen because (a) Levi would have to wait for an injury to SH/MW (b) we just recruited Duigan and Laidler.

Realistically: Whomever of Curnow, Cachia and Twomey put their hand up for selection first. Curnow has been overlooked in several national drafts so he's not a monty in my eyes. Cachia has bulked up over the off season but isn't match hardened after missing a number of Bullants games due to injury, plus Mclean makes him redundant. And Twomey - why would you pick an old bloke if you didn't intend to play him?

So... Twomey.:) 25 and ready as ever to go.

I'd be amazed if Twomey played senior footy in round 1.

Sure but Curnow is no chance either.

We have such a star-studded midfield that he'd be way, way, way, way down the pecking order. Judd, Murphy, GIBBS, Simpson, Carrazzo, Scotland, Mclean, Armfield, Joseph, Lucas, Walker, Russell, Robinson, Collins and Ellard... Not to mention the 3 amigos... All these chaps would get a run through the midfield before we even thought of elevating Curnow.

On the other hand, if Hampson was hamstrung, Casboult would be the obvious choice to partner 206. (Setanta can pinch hit but he's not a ruckman's backside - well hey neither is Casbah(?) but he'd be worth a shot.)

I think Curnow has a very realistic chance of playing round 1.

As inside mids, Brock and Ellard are ahead of him. Ellard is out through suspension (unless they appeal) and I seriously doubt Brock will be ready.

Judd is a great inside midfielder but he's even better outside.

Gibbs isn't an inside midfielder's arseh*le.

Murphy better outside and more valuable on a flank than in and under.

Simmo likewise.

Robbo will play inside mid but I have serious doubts as to whether he can do it for a full game.

None of the others are inside midfielders that we'll want getting in and under every pack.

Curnow is every chance of being there in Navy Blue in round 1.

I take your point, J. I just think with the rotational nature of footy these days 'insiders' are less of an impact when you have Warnock palming them down your throat from a great height. A quantity of quality mids vs positional mids.

Carrots - a mixture. Wins a heck of a lot of loose footy but I reckon he'd deliver some grunt in the centre square to your silk in CJ, Simmo, Lucas and Murph. Guaranteed best 22 and has the battle-hardened nous over a first-gamer.

But I accept your judgement - Richmond is an ideal opponent to blood an extra mid. :D

Gee for some reason I thought Twomey was 22, not 25... but there you go. Certainly should have the more mature body than the other rookies then.
But I too am mostly looking forward to what Curnow can produce.

Azul, you'll be pleasantly surprised when Curnow proves you wrong.

Looking forward to it. ;) Without seeing him play aside from youtube highlights - to an outsider he's 21yo and de-rookied by Adelaide. That's four AFL drafts where he's been eligible.

I'll back existing talent for round 1 but bow in humility to wiser heads such as yourself and Jeremias if and when he does debut against Richmond. :thumbsu:

Curnow dominated the VFL last year as many of us know, if he didn't sustain an injury I would say he would be a shoe in to play most games this year. He needs to regain a bit of touch which was evident in the game on Friday despite a good showing. Don't get me wrong k believe he will play a lot of senior footy this year.

After an extended period out of the game I would want him to have a few more games under his belt not like Friday where he only played a half. If he plays an impressive 4 quarter game against the Cats, well then that would change things.

For now he needs game time.

As for the thread well I would still nominate Curnow first and wait one the next nomination. I believe we still have no veterans on the list which allows us to nominate a second rookie.

Curnow should be a good thing.

Second elevation should definitely start with a T. Twomey may offer a bit more flexibility.

As with all Blues hope for nothing but the best, but can't see Cachia or Casboult making the grade long term.

Really like Dare as a footballer, whether he has the body and the mental application is another question.

40yearBlue seems to have been around forever, not sure if he is eligible and probably has attitude issues. I like the look of Iremember95, see no reason why he couldn't be elevated to full membership possibly later in the season.

40YB is a shoe in if we are looking for stamina. Known for his 3rd, 4th, 5th, 57th efforts, he's a workhorse.

IR95 needs a year of development so we can see what he has first.

We may be looking for someone who has genius skills in short bursts, but tends to spray it all over the place if called upon to work harder than they would like .... keep your phone on Thy.

I don't think any have set the world on fire just yet but Curnow and Touhy probably showed more with skills and courage.I don't think at this stage the club will promote anyone until injuries occur.
