Sam Draper was taken a few picks higher in the same rookie draft by essendon. He has played 0 games for essendon and did his acl about six weeks ago. It has been reported that he is considering a 4 year $400k offer from st kilda versus a three year $300+ deal from Essendon. If he hadn't done his knee he would have played a couple of games with Bellchambers injured. He was meant to be quite promising prior to the knee injury.

Port is going to offer Ladhams more than a one year deal or they might as well pack his bags for him.

Theoretically, his tenure should be linked to Hayes'. They are in competition to be the #2 ruckman on the list over the next few years, which would eventually lead to them being the #1 in the much longer term. At some point, one of them will have to be cut loose, because you could have 18 All Australian ruckmen on your list, but you'll still only ever be able to play 1-2 of them each week.

Yeah but imagine the army of giants playing at the Magpies!

If Hayes takes the standard 4 years to become an AFL ready ruck, Lycett will be pushing 30. Who knows where his body will be at by then

Hayes is a genuine ruck forward, which is a very rare commodity. I think both Ladhams and Hayes could play together. They'd have to be prepared to wait out Lycett's contract though.

And that's just not going to happen.

Trade Ryder, give Ladhams 2 or 3 years and Billy 1 year.
Our Ruck Depth Chart next year looks like: Lycett, Ladhams, Hayes, Frampton. More than enough imo. Definitely don’t want Ryder getting games over Ladhams or Hayes next year.

Next year:

AFL: Lycett ruck, Dixon, Howard forward, Hoff roaming. (Pending form, there is an opportunity for any of Ladhams/Hayes/Frampton/Marshall to possibly take a 3rd tall spot.

SANFL: Ladhams ruck, Frampton, Hayes, Marshall forward.

I thought the way Chris Davies answered questions regarding Peter on Monday, indicated he was probably on the move. Hope not, possibly our most improved player this season. Loves the club, just needs a break.

Our current squad has been built impressively and he would surely not want to leave the future opportunities here

And why would Hawks want a young ruckman to complement an ageing injury prone list ????

Would like to see him tried as a small forward, reckon play him alongside the Gray brothers and learn his craft. We can fit him in.

Or draft him in the PSD ...

Rookies have to nominate for the national draft first, and he’s no Luke Ball. He could end up anywhere. That’s why a club would trade.

Anyway it doesn’t matter. We’ve probably offered him a one year deal because it’s tied to what we’ve offered Ryder - sort of a “This is the pie, you get this slice, you get this slice” kind of situation. Ladhams isn’t Hayes, who will be a superstar ruck - he’s another Lycett.

I’m all for retaining him, but it has to be realistic. He needs to realise that the money will be there once Ryder is gone...which is probably why he’ll wait until we see what Paddy is doing.

Not sure if you are serious, McEvoy while still playing good footy is probably just gone beyond 3/4 time in his career. Ceglar is more of a back up guy and not all that far off McEvoy's age anyway. Clear need for a guy in Ladhams age profile and it can pay to be proactive with ruckman.

I would expect we will do what we need to keep Ladhams.

It was basically the same situation at West Coast with Cox, Naitanui and Lycett and Lycett waited out till the end of Cox’s career. Could happen

Cox was 30 when Lycett started at the Eags, Lycett is currently 26 and could play for another 6-7 years easily.

Lycett wishes he had the tools Ladhams has.
