Who if any rookies might get promoted now that a couple of openings have come through the ritirement of Woolly and the long term injury listing of Hunt. Shannon Byrnes would have to be one, but is any other deserving?

Talking of injuries, has anyone noticed the superb run of injuries Geelong has had this year. Only Hunt has been the only longish term injury and he is only a peripheral player. Contrast that to the sides we have played and the injuries inflicted, Grant, Lockyer and Campbell have all had serious season ending injuries.

Carazzo would be a certainty if we didn't already have so many medium sized, fast midfielders with shaky disposal skills. Jeff Smith would be an outside chance, being the tallest rover I have ever seen and with fairly good disposal, but I really think only Byrnes will get the call up.

Will Slade has been in and out through injury, Steven King is playing with a serious achilles problem, Cameron Ling's legs need a rest desperately. I'd bet there are one or two more carrying injuries that would ordinarily require them to miss a game or two. We have had a fair bit of luck though.

Don't forget Tom Harley missed the first 6-7 rounds. There's been a few players who've missed a week or two,but Hunt, Foster,Harley and Rahilly have probably been the only players to miss 3 or more weeks.

Byrnes would be the only rookie likely to get promoted.Carrazzo's problem is there's plenty of senior listed players that can play in the same position as him.

Paul Chambers is also playing hurt.

As for rookies. Shannon Byrnes is the only worthy one. Carrazzo will be delisted at seasons end, Jeff Smith doesn't get enough of the ball and Trav Jorgensen hasn't played enough.

I haven't seen much of Shannon Byrnes, but is he one player who could be promoted straight into the senior team??

They could promote him to the senior team now, but it wouldn't be a very wise move for the club to make due to his physical immaturity and lack of strength. I could almost guarantee you that he would play a handful of games next year though.
