Not sure if anyone else picked up on it, but Caydn Beetham is being considered for a rookie list spot.

Would be an old Rookie wouldn he, what age is he?. Still he'd be handy player after a few injuries.

Its a shame they can thave a topup player rule similar to the Rookies. Say a contracted VFL topup is capable of being elevated, like a Rookie, but if the club chooses to play him they are commited to picking him in the next draft. The guys like Egan are out there and deserve a chance.

So what is the age limit on the Rookies?

To my understanding, players must be between 18 and 23 to be eligible, on top of having spent no more than two years on the club’s rookie list.

So , just to clarify , must be a min of 18 , a max of 23 when listed?

Would this mean a 23 year old would only have a 1 year Rookie gig?

Key position player - Matthew Smith (adelaide)
Running player - Cayden Beetham (old xavs)
Onballer - Gareth Bowes (calder cannons)

Tom Davidson & Beetham are being strongly considered by the club as a mature aged rookie. Personally I'd rather take the risk on Davidson. To me Beetham would be a poorer version of the mids we already have. I spose that's the beauty of Tenace, Monica and Varcoe. They may be able to offer the much needed X factor now

No word on Bronson though. Banjanin looks to be the annual Geelong Falcons player

I'd LOVE to see the club pick up an INTERNATIONAL rookie, we are allowed to put up to two on our list above and beyond the normal rookie positions.

Currently, 7 players developed in overseas leagues are training at the AIS football academy, and are hoping to be given the chance at an AFL club. With the Cats in good financial health, and several other players arriving at the club from ususual backgrounds (draftees from NT, Ablett shy and requiring unorthodox player management), perhaps the club is in a position to consider drafting an international rookie.

Of the 7 in Canberra, the two New Zealanders are young, big (Maori & Samoan backgrounds) and perhaps won't suffer from homesickness as NZ is quite close internationally.

Read up about them at http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/realfooty/articles/2005/12/06/1133829596985.html, http://www.worldfootynews.com/article.php?story=20051128073822412 and http://www.worldfootynews.com/article.php?story=20051125015920170. I'd be interested to read others' opinions on the idea.
