Chelsea ready to swoop on Rooney: report
Premiership leaders Chelsea are lining up a 35 million-pound ($A39.9 million) bid for England and Everton teenage striker Wayne Rooney, The Sun has reported today.

Britain's biggest-selling daily, which earlier this year broke the news that David Beckham was heading to Real Madrid, says a Chelsea representative is believed to have held unofficial talks with Rooney's aides last week.

Chelsea, who went top of the Premiership on Wednesday following a draw at Birmingham, have already spent more than 100 million pounds ($A242 million) on players since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took over the club in the summer.

Around 40 million pounds ($A96.91 million) went on Argentinian hitman Hernan Crespo and Romanian striker Adrian Mutu.

Everton forward Rooney became the youngest player to wear an England shirt when he made his debut against Australia at the age of 17 years and 111 days in February. He has since become a permanent fixture in the national side.

Chelsea would not be able to make any move for the youngster until the transfer window reopens in January, while The Sun says Rooney will earn at least 40,000 pounds ($A96,910) per week should a deal be struck.

GH,

Rooney wouldn't leave Everton if they were in the conference four years from now. He's an Evertonian  ;)

Just copied from a website, don't blame me for the dodgy conversion!

Either Rooney is no where near as good as the hype has people believing, or he will be leaving soon. No way known he will be at Everton in 5 years time.

Just because you can't keep a hold on decent young players doesn't mean you should exorcise jealousies in our direction.

A figure of around 200m pounds would be required, I'd think.

Who Bridge?

He's 22 or 23

As Goalden Hawk said, we'll see if Rooney is an Everton player in 5 years time when he's the same age.

See you on Sunday

Everton 0 Saints 1 (Beattie). Sven might be at the game, he'll be in the toilet when Beattie scores the goal.
