The Kangaroos should leave the SCG - for good. The crowds that turn up their for roos matches are terrible.(Except maybe if Sydney happen to be playing). The crowd for Roos- Tigers match was well below average. Yeah ,yeah, I know that Richmond supporters probably couldn't make the journey but what about roos supporters? I'm not bagging the supporters, I'm bagging the fact that the roos are playing at the SCG. I know that it is just a trial but next year, the roos can't possibly play at SCG as a home game.
Try again AFL. Wayne Jackson should know better. Better luck next time. (Let's hope there isn't a next time)

Another dissapointing effort at the SCG on Saturday night.

I was there of course and like the now infamous Port Adelaide game earlier (7000 attended that one)easily half the crowd were barracking for Richmond ...

Of course there are excuses - the Rugby Union Test live on TV kept alot of people indoors Saturady night for one but really - it was a beautiful evening for footy and the game was very entertaining with quick scoring, big goals and lots of running. Richmond played very well but they were hopelessly undermanned and when Benny Gale went down that was it for the Tiges.

But no matter which way you look at it 9300 is a terrible crowd - and with Swans crowds 'bottomed out' at around 23,000 per game - you can't really use the 'fickle Sydney fan' excuse anymore.

Looks like its back to Canberra for the Roos next season.

Has the world gone mad ?

Many Victorians wanted to see North-Richmond live but it's played in Sydney. Sydneysiders have to watch union on TV because it's in melbourne. (How many would have gone to homebush ?)

What next ? Bullfighting in India ?

Topsy - turvey Init Pess ?

Figure this one out

North Melbourne play a home game against Richmond in Sydney in an effort to broaden their supporter base - 9300 turn up to see a game that would have pulled 50,000 + in Melbourne

The Australian Rugby Union play an International Test match in Melbourne against South Africa, in an effort to broaden support and exposure of the code in the Melbourne Market. The Rugby people were hoping to sell out Colonial Stadium. Instead 34,000 show up to a game that would have pulled 75,000 + at Homebush Stadium.

Both organisations (the Roos and the Aust Rugby Union) did this in an effort to expand their supporter base in non-traditional markets - both experiments should be called dismal failures and stopped immediately.

To the Roos - Its not working guys, anyone who follows Aussie Rules up here follows the Swans and will not attend Roos SCG games in great numbers.

To the Aust Rugby Union - Nobody in the Southern States cares for your code, 'international competition' or no 'international competition'. Stop playing a foreign game in front of a disinterested and uncomprehending audience.

Bloodstained Angel,

I think that the 34,000 that turned up to Colonial Stadium was good. You must remember that most tickets sold for more than $50 or $60 per person, some even $120.

Plus, the game was not part of the tri-series, but mearly a "friendly".

Simple Solution, The WACA ground wont have football played there at all from next year (The contract for playing AFL there has expired this year, all AFL matches will be at Subiaco) and they are looking for a Victorian club to play a few home matches there. I know there are quite a few Kangaroo supporters over here in the west and I'm quite sure we could get a crowd higher then Sydney. What do people think of this?

Yeah sure THE BALL I'm not saying the Rugby crowd in Melbourne was a disaster - just dissappointing.

The Rugby People were hoping to sell out Colonial (52,000?) Insread they pre-sold 30,000 tickets and another 4500 walked up on the night.

It wasn't a tiny crowd sure, but way down on expectations and the ARU wouldn't have made alot of money out of the deal, also all those empty seats must have looked terrible for an a highly prestigous International Test Match between the number 1 and number 3 world ranked teams.

When you also consider that 90,000 have showed up to the MCG to watch Rugby Union in the past, I thought Saturday's crowd was sh*thouse.

Why don't Richmond try to stay in the 8 for a change this year, if Daphney had not been so scared of the super power North Fitzroy Kangaroos then the Kangaroos would not force you to Sydney every 2nd year. Thanks Daph, you asked for it you got it.

I've read that AFL says it wants to put another team in Sydney ASAP; after this experiment it's hard to imagine why. I guess the Olympic momentum and the economic benefits are too great.

It seems to me like people there can't stand the Kangaroos anyway (even starting up the "Carey's a w***er" chant).

I realize the eventual downfall of more Victorian clubs in the future is probably a forgone conclusion, but regardless I don't see too many Sydneysiders embracing a second Victorian transplant.

Willy,

Daphne might be glad he has gone because I reckon a few will be ducking for cover when Dyson Hore Lacy's Fitzroy hits the book shelves. North in Sydney is nothing different to what happened to Compas Airlines in Melbourne. Their competition was not appreciated nor wanted you know the old pre historic behaviour.

The only way the Kangaroos will ever get crowds in Sydney, is if they change their name to the Sydney kangaroos or West Sydney Kangaroos. I live in Sydney and the people here dont want to support something that Victoria could claim part of.

If anyones thinking of correcting me by saying Sydney were South Melbourne. The AFL supporters in Sydney are so dumb they probably wouldn't even know that.
