Some of the key aspects to come out of the interview include;

- Expect Hall and Kennelly to be better in '08. Hall definately available for Round 1 of season proper.

- Same principles in place in terms of style of play, basics of the game the same.

- Malceski, Mattner, Kennelly on a wing at certain times, alternating between half back.

- Playfair up forward.

- More outside run with the introduction of Barlow and Mattner.

- Need to improve on skills, turnovers killed us in '07.

- Jude Bolton has had a terrific pre-season and will play more on ball this year.

Glad to hear that Jude will be used on the ball this year (and where he should be). Still not really buying that Playfair's going to be useful upfront, then again, Teddy was meant to be a forward that was going to pitch-hit in the back - now it seems as though he had lost all the forward skills he had...

I still reckon he's going to be our third ruckman :p

Richards is way more mobile than Playfair. Playfair is more lumbering, hence should be used in attack. He'll be exposed quite easily in defence IMO.

Playfair was meant to be very good as a CHB at VFL level though. But I guess what I'm really saying is that I'm hoping that we can do a Jason Ball to him.
Maybe so but there is a massive difference between VFL and AFL standards. Nonetheless, I think he will be a good pick up for us.

Ideally for me he should be based down back, (VFL is much better ACTFL) and used as a pinch hitter up FWD.. If he can do the job on some of the bigger fwds in the leauge, and kick 20/30 goals in the season were laughing.

I am more than a little perplexed about Jude Bolton playing more in the midfield. Where the hell else can he play, he sure as heck doesn't get a touch up forward or down back.

By his own admission he was unfit last year, a damning admission. He played on the ball in the Elimination Final and didn't lay a fingernail on the footy in 16, yes 16 centre bounce contests. Looks like Roosey has anointed him for the gravy train once again in 2008.

Gets less than 20 possessions a game, has no skills and is about the worst finisher in game in almost a dead heat with Bevan.

yeah, jude's a shocking kick for goal, as we all know only too well
but he's not alone in that, most of our midfield/small forward types seem incapable of snapping goals, although it seems only schneider was held accountable during trade week
jude bolton is a great bloke and a great servant of the club, but he certainly needs to step up from last year to reclaim a place in our midfield on any permanent basis

Great bloke, great servant of the club: rewind to 2005, then fast forward and all you will have is blank tape. He is so far past it is not funny.

By the way he is only a great servant of the club by past perception because he hasn't been by deeds for 2 years.

Totally agree on his positioning, btw admiting he was unfit last year begs the question, why on earth was he playing at all?

I wish that when I was younger, that I could of had the dedication and ability to have been able to play footy at the level of competition and also the standard of a Jarrad McVeigh or a Jude Bolton.

It is after all much easier to critisize our players anonymously on a website, than what it is to be able to take their places on the list and be able to play footy like a Brett Kirk or Paul Kelly.

that's a hackneyed comment....we'd all like to be good enough, or have been good enough, to maybe get to play footy at that standard
unfortunately, we're stuck with what we are, and we're left to stand and watch, to cheer and jeer, and admire or criticise what we see
anonymity be damned, you don't like it you don't need to participate in any online forums, or even go online at all

what's worse, however, is to actually HAVE the talent of a bolton or, dare i say it, a mcveigh (yes, obviously he has some ... somewhere) and to squander it once you've been given the chance, or earned the chance to play at afl level
certainly, the one thing the average fan can believe he/she has in the same amounts as an afl player is heart, or character
and what REALLY pisses me off is to see the likes of mcveigh (jude bolton certainly has heart), week in week out, fail to show the required heart or character or desire to make the most of the obvious football skills he must have shown at some point of his career, to have been drafted No 5
it's a diabolical waste, and that is when every fan is entitled to be offer an opinion

I will enjoy all the egg on faces of certain swans fans RE: McVeigh this year. If Roosey plays him in the correct position (small forward, outside mid not tagger) he will succeed. Still got heaps of faith in him.

Jude on the other hand.....

if mcveigh turns his career around and actually makes something of it, i will be first to put up my hand, admit i was wrong and cheer him all the way
for his first 2 years or so, in fact up til the 05 GF, i was desperately waiting and hoping for him to show he was as good as i'd wanted to believe
that's probly why i'm so harsh, because he's been such a fcking letdown
and this is not the first time i've said this
as for egg on the face, you can lick my bag!

there haven't been too many threads, or even individual posts, talking up mcveigh as a valuable and vital member of the swans senior team, or spruiking his many match-winning feats

can there be just one forum where jarrad mcveigh is not bagged:D
No, unfortunately bedford and rancidpants generally do the bagging.

But I have faith in McVeigh, he is turning 23 this April and still a pretty young age. Possibly the age where he'll turn around and become a vital player for us. He reminds me a bit of Buchanan, who was only 23 back in 2005 and boy did we see a change in Buchanan's performance.

FM0226, yes your right, Playfair did play CHB for the VFL. But you all have to remember he was fightin for that position with Egan (who was All Australian CHB) Play him at CHB and give (a fit) LRT a go in the forward line. He will be an asset for us, not to mention Marty M. I was already a fan of his when he was at Adelaide.
It's gunna be good to see Leo, Marty, Malceski and Kenally all streaming out of the backline at the SCG.
