Rumour Rory Lobb to the Suns

lol, they wont be giving you a first rounder for lobb.

what is it with freo supporters and overrating their players this year. theyre gonna end up with every pick in the first round at this rate.

It might not be pick 5 or whatever hand they hold right now but pick 15 as an example could well and truly be on the cards.

Ultimately i don't think we would want to trade him (unless of course we have sounded out a ready made replacement i.e. Jackson, English) and he holds a contract so its going to be pretty hard work to pry him free.

The contract is also irrelevant. They (if they are) obviously wouldn't be chasing him if they weren't willing to either a) pay his deal put or b) sign him to an extension. Its not a salary dump opportunity for us if it does eventuate so the deal wont be discounted based on his high salary.

I think this would be a great get for the Suns. Lobb isn’t winning you games but he’s one of the better ruck-forwards in the comp. They are desperate for another key post to go along with King, and it gives them a little bit of ruck insurance as well given their issues this year.

They should have a bit of cap room and willingness to part with draft picks given the abundance of talent already on the list.

According to Lobb's manager, neither he or Lobb have courted any offers from Victorian clubs but his manager also can't guarantee he'll be playing for Fremantle next year. Sounds like we (the Suns) are knee deep in this one and just about have Lobb over the line to join us this off season.

If true, it's going to be difficult for any backline to stop the twin towers of King (202cm) and Lobb (206cm) next year.
apart from Freo who's had trouble stopping Lobb?

A 29 year old (start of next year) key forward who has only twice kicked above 20 goals in a year. But its not like thats because he's been rucking, because only 3 times he has averaged double figure hitouts (11, 20 and 21). Players of that quality come from the vfl as rookie picks. If GC give up pick 15 for him without a good 2nd round pick coming back, the afl need to take control of them and clear out their recruitment department.

Why would we let one of our only 3 KPF go for something less than a first rounder?

We won't let it happen unless GC pay overs, we genuinely have no other KPF on our list due to the holes that Mccarthy and Hogan left

IF GC try to poach him then they will have to pay up, otherwise it won't be done.

Freo aren't initiating a salary dump here, this would be a poaching of a best 22 player who is on 700k

They gave up Pick 2 for Lachie Weller, delisted Jarryd Lyons, effectively delisted Jack Martin, trade Pick 27 in 2019 for Pick 11 in 2020… This doesn’t even touch it.

Tbh a lot of these kinds of deals are about the optics of senior players wanting in. Lobb is a decent but not amazing player, and that is kind of the point. All of a sudden they look like a club players want to be at.

This one makes a bit of sense.

Doubt Freo are too concerned. Extra money to re-sign Cerra, and give Treacy the mantle of the second key forward.

Pick 2 for Weller and Ballard, and that pick 27 got 30 possies on the weekend as well ;)

Suns are crazy to pay anything like a first rounder. If Freo want to part with him it is because he is not worth what they are paying him and if they are happy to lose him even though they have very few KPF that tells you something as well. Has made a handsome living off a couple of good seasons at GWS.

They don’t play the percentages like other clubs, but they value other aspects of players and/or draft selections.

The Lachie Weller was a symbolic deal as much as it was just good business adding a talented young player. Ballard coming on has been a big bonus - he’s arguably as good a player.

The Sharp deal was interesting. The Suns valued the additional years development, and it’s looking like a pretty sound investment. Clubs are doing more of these type of deals, but that was the biggest reach pick-wise I have seen in a current-for-future swap.

actually it was pick 2 for weller and ballard. a bit overs but they've received 2 best 22 players for a single pick.

every club has delisted players which have gone on to be good. he was in his 8th year or so when they did, and noone was exactly crying boo until he started playing well for brisbane.

they delisted jack martin because your club offered them nothing for him anyway. they decided to take a stand rather than accept the pathetic pick you offered that they wouldnt have been able to use anyway.

and it was pick 27 for pick 15 in the end. hardly a big deal if they saw a player they rated in the top 15 of that year. in 10 years time we could be talking about the guy wondering why he slid out of the top 10.

lobb for pick 15 would be far worse than any single one of those things. you dont give away a first round pick for a plodder you will have for 2-3 years just 'for the optics'.

No one is overrating Lobb, no one thinks he’s anything other than a c-b grade AFL footballer. We are just in a situation where we can’t lose him and he’s contracted for 2 years. Unless by some miracle we have someone decent lined up to replace him or get something ridiculous in return, we aren’t trading him anytime soon.

We are better off keeping him on the list for 2 more years while Treacy and whoever we pick this year develop then letting him go for his actual value of a 2nd round pick

Kicked 4.3 two weeks ago 🤔

You haven’t got Freo people in this thread falling over themselves to pump up the actual abilities of Lobb here - he is a guy who will play maybe 5 good games a year, the rest of the time he’s a bit of limp noodle - hence they know he isn’t worth what he’s being paid, and despite a lack of depth up forward, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he was to leave the club.

That all said, he has 2 years to run on the Dockers I’m pretty sure? - if GC genuinely do want to pay him even more money, for longer, they are clearly a bit mental and will likely pay a decent price to get him to their club. He might not get Freo a top 5 pick but I reckon they’ll walk away pretty happy should a deal go down.

I’m pretty comfortable with Jeremy sharp with an extra year of development (who we traded for)

Over

Max Holmes,Ryan Angwin, Connor stone, finlay macrae (who were available with pick 15)

Letting Peter Wright go for peanuts then paying up for Rory Lobb 12 months later would be one of the the more daft trading moves in recent history
