Recommitted Rory Lobb [trade is off, staying at Fremantle]

RORY Lobb's future is clouded with rivals believing the Fremantle forward is open-minded about a move to a third AFL club.

The 28-year-old Docker is contracted for another two years at Fremantle after landing from Greater Western Sydney on a five-year deal at the end of 2018.

However, opposition clubs are of the view he could assess his options at the end of the season, with Lobb having ties to Victoria.

Lobb is on a deal worth around $700,000 a year for the next two seasons through to the end of 2023.

This one has come out of nowhere. One of the best contested marks in the game, a threat both in the ruck and in the forward line.

2 years left on his deal - what's he worth?

I'd take him to partner with English to split the ruck/forward role for the next few years 50/50. Is he happy playing a fair bit of time in the ruck?

We'd have to be careful they don't target our WA boys in English & Naughton and probably push out someone like JJ (who is on $600k next year).

Same.

Whilst Lobb is talented, he’s been very “underwhelming” in his career. For a player of his size and athleticism he is very inconsistent.
You wont find many Freo fans who dont agree with this.

Pretty sure this is a manager pushing for a contract extension now his client is playing ok football.

Regardless of his limitations, we have 3 KPFs on our list and he's contracted for 2 years. It's worth us keeping him on the list for a couple of years while Treacy and whoever we draft this year (hopefully) develops.

Given the fact no one is going to want to pay him 700k and we cant afford to lose him unless its stupidly over his value, I dont see how a trade would get done.

The currency for rucks is quite inflated.

If we could get a 1st rounder for him and free up a bit of cap then why not?

While a handy player he has underperformed in terms of his talent.

Because unless we have a replacement lined up, we'd be heading into a season with at best 4 KPFs on the list (if we draft two), 3 of which would be under 20. Trading him makes no sense for where we are at

Don’t have the article handy but what was the link he had to Victoria is it through his partner who has family there?

Lobb’s partner is the daughter of our former CEO Steve Rosich who was fired along side Ross Lyon. He’s now working for Racing Victoria and lives in Melbourne.

Strange.

He left us to “go home” and now looking at Victoria? How very McCarthy.

At least he doesn’t hold up the club I guess.

Was a great mark.

2nd rounder.

Rory Lobb is overpriced considering his current output.

On the other hand..... It would be dumb for freo to off load him now. Last years trade and draft period, Freo got rid of Jesse Hogan (Ironcally at your mob GWS right now), Cam McCarthy and even Hugh Dixon. All 3 are 190cm tall forwards and only brought in and Admittedly a promising rookie in Josh Traecy.

Freo turfed out Brandon Matera last season and have a variety of young small forwards pockets/ forward flankers.

Why? Lobb for Naughton sounds ok for me. When you add a 2nd rounder...

That seems very random

especially considering he has links to Victoria that you’d imagine if he were to leave his home state it would be for Vic only
Yeah, a bit out of the blue. Definitely fills a need though with the 2nd forward/2nd ruck position in the team for next season, just don't think that bloke will be Lobb.

Thing is he would actually cost a team cause he is contracted for a further 2 seasons and integral to fremantles side!! we basically don't have cover for him
