Not the surgery that's the issue, it's the conditioning after a few days off that sets players back.

Betts would have been fine after a week, but enjoys too many cigarettes (imagine how good he'd be without them!)

Key things appear to be:

- Time for cut to heal
- Time for digestive system to heal
- Time for stomach muscles to heal (if surgery affects them)

Seems most sites say no exercise or heavy lifting for 1-2 weeks.

Playing an AFL final 9 days after will be pushing it. I think the Crows will play it safe, especially given GWS's form.

My post-appendectomy recovery (until I was able to function normally) took about a week. 2 days of that was spent in excruciating pain, so I really do feel for Sloane.

It's keyhole surgery, of course - but we're talking about a sport with plenty of physical contact around the area operated on. He'll be feeling back to normal in no time, but it'd still be unwise to take the field in just 9 days.

This sucks, but it also presents a healthy challenge to the playing group who might otherwise be thinking 'Meh, we've got GWS. We always beat them at home.' NO. You all need a big ******* rocket and here it is.

Hey hae, I like the last two posts.. it is what I would have said..

Just so you know, it is a bit silly to dramatise things so all I will say is that Rory is the man for all seasons... oops that it is a bit
graphic.. get well soon dude..

I had my appendix out in the afternoon, discharged the following morning.

Could barely move for about 4 days.
After a week I was mobile enough.
But not active or contact sport mobile.

Would be a minor miracle if Sloane is fit to play!

Sloaney also gets niggled by taggers more than most.

Lots of back/ side punching and so forth.

Surely the area would have still be a bit tender one would think.

I hope he plays but it poses a problem. If he is rushed back how will people view the gws players targeting him to "soften" him up if he is rushed back??? He gets a lot of physical attention at the best of time so do you reduce that to show a duty of care to him, play as usual which could exacerbate the problem or target it to try and take him out of the game all together???

I had my appendix out on christmas morning as a kid and recovered enough to still open presents that night. So going by that he'll be fine to play.

Surely you don't risk him. I know that recovery can be quick from appendicitis once they're removed but his health is still paramount and he needs to properly recover and get his body right.

If he is out there he is 100%. Unless he is heading towards the boundary with an injury he is fair game
