The Colin Sylvia hate on this forum has already surpassed Jack Anthony levels before he's even played a game. Why anyone would want to come to Freo in future to be treated like shit by supporters is a question we are going to have to ask in the future.

Ballantyne has done this sort of thing again and again and again. Yes, I love him too but he's an idiot and promised to rid his game of this sort of stuff. He was the one who knew Mayne out of form, Sylvia, Walters, Simpson already out - a time when we could least afford one of his brain farts. Don't know how you guys can 'rank them' to be honest.

I reckon we're seeing a mixture of injury testing our resolve amongst our depth and a GF hangover. There might be a few who may be thinking they dont need to improve. I reckon theres a few heading for a trainwreck (Frodo particularly) His crap cant continue. He more than anyone needs to make a statement re his GF effort.

Just hoping the GF wasnt a fluke - I reckon we caught a few teams unaware (whom now have a strategy against us) and we could\should have stolen the GF as well.

Sylvia needs to step up - hasnt made a good start. But as his Buddy I'm sure this will be a turning point and he will prove his value.

I can not see him playing AFL this week, and I expect him to play WAFL this week ( assuming he turns up to training and trains hard), and I would imagine he will not be considered for AFL until he plays 2-3 good games at WAFL level.

I do not see what good suspending him would do.

Bloody hell Doris, We have 40,000 members and gawd knows how many supporters. Yet you cherry pick the views of what, 27 people on an internet forum, as a basis for not wanting to play for us.

Most on here are disappointed with Colin Sylvia's fitness levels during pre season, then when we need him to fill a role he snots another player 50mtrs off the ball.

I for one really am looking forward to watching Sylvia running out for us, I think you are way OTT with this.

I am too. I can only guess that you haven't actually read the stuff people have been posting here about Sylvia. Facebook is even worse.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was booed/jeered by our supporters when he runs out for the first time, just like Dawson and Anthony were.

With Walters out for the year, it sucked knowing Ballas will either get injured or reported, wouldn't surprise me if it's both. Here we are, hes missing a week because of pure stupidity. Not good enough.

Facebook, the home of idiots. Don't worry about facebook, we lose one game and they claim they're never going to another match again. They're not fans, they're bandwagoners, you think they cared about us when we weren't playing finals?

Sylvia will be cheered, settle down dude, just because people on an online internet forum are saying negative things about him doesn't mean that's the perception of every single fan. I'm sure he'll be cheered when he FINALLY runs out for the first time in purple.

Everything from that 6PR interview certainly suggests so... I've never heard Ross so upset.

I think it's the combination of both losing a winnable game and simultaneously being let down by 3 of his players.

The way he discusses Josh it seems like he's currently in a pit far deeper than what SonSon was two years ago... and unlike Walters I'm not sure if Josh has the mental endurance to pull himself out.

Seriously, much as this last few days of events has prompted the return of negative meeja focus, I am hopeful that it is just a quick bumpy patch that is just the thing we need to remind the players (and some fans) that we aren't simply going to breeze on into the top eight without real, undying and ever-improving effort from every player on the list - great, great effort, as it were...

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of this has been over-blown due to a lack of happenings elsewhere at a slow news period (ffs, what else is there to focus on if you are a tabloid journo except the missing plane, the latest reality TV show and the cute baby pics of wee Prince Georgie and his parents??). As GilG has pointed out in his sparse but excellent posts, none of the boys have done an Aaron Hernandez, and while it isn't a balmy day down the beach with Freo sitting easy at #1 on the ladder with a 400% percentage, the sky isn't exactly falling in either (just yet).

We always seem to have some period of mini-crisis each year, and while I'm not rapt with Ballas, Joshy or Col, at least we are getting it out of the way early this year. Hopefully it is just the kick up the backside that the squad as a whole seems to be in need of.

Most of all, I am absolutely delighted with Rosscoe Pekoe's unique brand of professionally irritated irascibility.

His approach has been much better than when he was at St Kilda, and is so very much better than the more common responses of coaches either:

• trying to pretend there is no problem,
• saying nothing at all and giving up with a grimaced whimper on a lost cause,
• blaming the umpires/draw/weather/AFL/MRP/media, and/or
• entering into hysterical tirades about the unfairness of the situation (or having their wives deliver such tirades for them #standbymellatonanman)

Ross has been open, honest and sharp - he's not avoided any questions, and clearly set the standard for the whole group (including specifically mentioning post match that he and the rest of the coaches have to fix things). For me, it shows he really cares about the chance to do great things with this team, his faith that the core talent is there if we'd just apply ourselves with consistent great effort - and how upset he is that even early in the season we are not getting the basic things right in-house.

Would any of our other coaches have ever been so effective at sending a "Not Happy Jan" message??
